    myth or fact about chainsaws

For what it's worth my local dealer's price on the cheap saws is $5-$10 less than the prices in the box stores. He'll also find your uses and recommend the right saw for you. Along with that he'll be the one to service it, no matter where you buy it. I think he prefers to work on HIS...

    What the hell happened?

I don't like it either, but I'm old and grumpy and never like changes unless they're an improvement! :(

Need schooling on piston burn outs

I downloaded the pic for an enlarged look, but still can't tell. Is that corrosion on the bottom of the skirt? If so, water through the exhaust may have corroded the piston, then running it deposited piston material on the cylinder leading to the problem. You still need to check everything...

    TSC Bar Oil?

I've gone through several gallons and no problems. It's as good as any, maybe a lighter weight than some.

mathematic formula for choosing a chainsaw

A big part of the "field" you refer to is what size trees? Hardwood? Softwood? What's your woodcutting purpose? I'm a Husky fan, so a smaller do it all saw would be a 372. If you need larger, a 385/390. Limbing would be a 346, unless you're poor like me, then a 350. If you're under...

How many folks here on AS work in Wildfire?

I work for a career municipal department, but we cover nearly 700 square miles. Our department runs several hundred wildland fires per year. Fuels are mainly grass/brush, a few hardwoods and millions of Eastern Red Cedars. The cedars are a weed to this area and a real problem with fire and...

    Bob Vila tree felling

LMAO I totally agree! The problem with these guys is some people (wives) watch this crap and expect us to do the same things they do!

    Thinking about modding my muffler

Nobody can give you anything accurate. Every saw is different, especially after any mod. What's right for your saw will change with temperature or altitude and to a lesser extent humidity or fuel. You have to tune it right for the conditions. The basic settings are just close enough to get...

    Selling Firewood For Side Work

I would suggest finding an established firewood dealer and go to work for him as a subcontractor. Advantages would include: You're not taking away his hard-earned customers. He'll take care of the marketing/customers, etc. If you need help with felling or whatever, he'll be there...

New 'visitor/customer' let them in the shop??

It may not be very nice, but... Write down his tag number and vehicle description. Use your cell phone to discretely snap a picture or two. IF something happens in the near future, your local PD will have something to start with. I agree with others, meet in driveway or even somewhere "more...

Husky 350 gas tank vent leaks

Forgot that it's not silicon, thanks! Sorry about the incorrect information. Here's what I've used that worked for a year and still OK. Permatex MotoSeal® 1 Ultimate Gasket Maker Grey For two and four cycle engines. Solvent-based bond fully seals within 20 minutes. Forms a tough flexible...

Clean and dry the vent and tank, then install with a little silicon gasket sealer.

    Husqvarna 353

If I'm seeing it correctly, those are for a primer. Plug them both and you're fixed. Also plug the half inch or so hole in the plastic where the bulb goes or it might disrupt the cooling airflow a little and let dirtier air to the air filter. Better yet, that saw is not fixable. Ship it to...

    Husqvarna 353

Now it makes a little more sense. Those two lines on the left side of the carb go to the primer (squeeze bulb thingie) One from tank goes in, other to the carb. If you don't use the primer, plug them and fix your problems.

Repairing a cracked plastic gas tank?

On a Husky I tried JB Weld, worked a day, then leaked. Tried an epoxy made for plastic, worked a couple days before leaking. Plastic welded with a soldering iron like others have mentioned, then covered that with JB Weld to give it a little more strength and it's been going for over a year...

    Husqvarna 353

It's not an impulse hose, these saws' impulse is inside the intake. There's three nipples on the tank, if it's a later model and I'm guessing you have the lines switched. The white plastic is a vent that has no line hooked to it.

    handling acid

Glad everyone's OK. All the posts have been good, but remember when neutralizing an acid or base, heat is released. Make sure that you rinse extremely well first!
