    Stihl crank case repair(welding)?!?!?!

Gotta love video verification! It's been a while since I've done mag but it's like riding a bike. That and welding every day helps too. I'm spoiled these days with brand new materials going together and mostly stainless steel. I miss running titanium the most though. I just love a good titanium...

    Stihl crank case repair(welding)?!?!?!

I was taught in Air Force Tech School to TIG weld magnesium by actually putting the tip of the Tungsten right into to pool of molten Mag. It does not stick like it would aluminum and actually does work. Ive done several old bow risers this way and so far so good. Mag runs real cloudy and has a...

Stihl MS 650 Running Too Lean...

Crank bearings may be shot. Could just be something leaking around the carb though. Leak down check is in order.

    Need a bigger saw...suggestions

Nothing smaller than a Husky 455 or Stihl ms290 in a mid range saw. Pro saws require more money but advantages are to be had and less likely to have buyers remorse. Stihls are cheaper and alot of people say better which is of course always a debate. A nice 60cc pro saw would be enough to tackle...

    MS 362 opinions

I've wondered that as well. Seems to be an AS theme. Go to a 562xp thread and they bash the MS362 there too without a reason.

Perhaps not BUUUT the OP and 98% of those on this site are in the USA so this is something that matters to some on this side of the pond.

    MS 362 opinions

It just seems to me Husky is coming out with a new saw every few weeks just to cover their tracks on what they did wrong and get talk away from it. Recalls anyone? No rev boost? And I was looking at another thread that had a 562xp and a MS362 fully loaded ready to cut and the MS362 weighed...

    MS 362 opinions

That new Husky 562xp certainly is a sexy looking saw but it's also more expensive and only .1 hp more powerful and less than a half pound lighter. I don't see such a substatial difference that it make that Husky better in any way other than to the person who may be totally biased on brands. I...

    MS 362 opinions

Yea I have seen "uninteresting" due to being "too heavy" coming from lovers of the ms361 and I have run them side by side and I didn't notice this weight gain at all while in my hands. The MS362 a very good saw being smooth and having plenty of power for what you will use it for. If it is...

Amazing what 1 hand and 6" can do!

Wow....a pic may say a thousand words but a video is worth a million in this instance. Looks nice and simple to use. Thanks!

Amazing what 1 hand and 6" can do!

Does it hook into the wood by spring pressure or do you need two hands to put the hooks in? I've always used the "Pulp Hooks" http://www.baileysonline.com/itemdetail.asp?item=15840&catID= and using two at a time I can hook two really big pieces and walk the close to my splitter a good distance...

    firewood saws

Depends what you want it for. I for one have another saw with me as a backup saw and I want it to be able to do the same job as my main saw if need be. I do hardwoods (10"-24" or so) for firewood and not a ton of limb work required. If I was to do alot of limb work such as softwoods or pruning...

    266xp Pricing..

Those were the staple saw in the pulp woods up here in NH for many years. High reving and good throttle responce. A bit heavy to do limbing work all day on big pines but for the ones doing the felling it was highly regarded. I have a 266se that was my primary saw for a couple years until I got a...

    what would you do?

I'm a wood scrounge too and I get some from my archery club every year during spring clean up so for club dues of $35 yr I get around 2 cords free. Ice storms, high winds and people having trees fills the rest usually but I have had slim years so I get a grapple load every couple/three years. My...

Need help picking the correct saw for me.

I was in the same boat a few years back too and went with a MS361. More than I really needed but I like to have a bit more than needed because I knew eventually I would need it and I managed to scrape up a couple hundred extra bucks. My recomendation is the MS 362 if you can get the extra cash...

Ran a 361 and new 362 side by side

Today my neighbor came home with a nice new MS362 so since I have the MS361 we decided to run them together to see any differences. His is new and not broken in yet and mine (361) has about 20 cords to it's name. We tried them through fresh cut red oak about 15" in diameter and power seems to be...

    Bucking with aftermarket/big dog spikes?

Dancan I have the same "spikes" you have on my 266se. I dont need them due to mostly smooth or thin bark. My MS361 has the stocks on there but rarely use them as they are intended. I cut some trees here and there but alot of what I do is down already and spikes just grab and make things harder...

How do you start your indoor fire?

I buy a bundle of slats (thin pine 4' long) from H/D and use one lenth each time breaking it up into 6-8" pieces and for the tinder I build bows (mostly hickory) so I have lots of wood shavings from the drawknife that I just pack into a brown paper lunch bag and stack in a big box. Pile all...

So I'm curious, what do you guys do for a living?

I'm 41 and own/operate my own welding buisiness (99.9% TIG). Many years in aerospace and semi conductor as a welder and supervisor. Also in the Army Guards as an electrician with 160th engineers but training for Afganistan as convoy security.

    An awesome graduation present

Forrestry can be dicey. So can Machinist jobs but with that you can go anywhere you want to live and find a job. Become a CNC programer and the paycheck can be pretty good the better you get. I've been in metal fab as a TIG welder all my life and it's got it's up and downs but not too bad really.
