    firewood buisness

I would add.... first, don't quit your day job! Also, firewood demand is, to a large degree, driven by the cost of fuel for heating, whether it is natural gas, fuel oil, propane or other. Right now in New Mexico natural gas is a very inexpensive source of energy for heating and the price has...

    New spark plugs

Replaced the spark plugs in my saws with new ones (NGK BPMR7a). Amazing, the saws are starting on the second or third pull now.

    Wood Hauler Pics

Down in my neck of the woods you have to get a permit to use anything with steel tracks because of all the ancient archeological sites that are everywhere.

    Toyotas in the Woods

In the oil patch all you ever see are 3/4 and 1-ton fords, chevys and dodges because anything else gets beat to all hell!

I finally pulled the trigger on a new splitter.

    Year Round Firewood Business

Well, talking about buying 600 acres sounds like some debt associated with that. Unless you're paying all cash, in which case I wouldn't think you'd be planning a business around firewood. But I could be mistaken. Where I am, the firewood selling occurs from late Sep until mid to late Feb...

    Design Flaw - Troybilt splitter

Same splitter I use what appears to be the identical splitter and haven't had the problems you've been having with the exception of having bent one of the adjustment bolts. I cut my wood pretty clean so there are few or no protrusions such as branch ends and knots. Plus, my main firewood...

whats better to pull trailer with??

Another consideration is that the NV5600 6 speed is out of production, not that many ever manufactured (compared to the NV4500) and parts are getting harder to find all the time. The NV4500 5 speed has been around for a long time, parts are everywhere, and it is pretty bullet proof with the...

    Burning cottonwood...?

Cottonwood does burn fast and doesn't produce as much heat as some other firewoods. Also, it's a beast to split even when dried out pretty well.

First Load of Firewood ... SOLD!

You got a few floods back there as I recall... Hardly fair to compare Californication with most of the West. Most of us who live in the real West don't consider California any more part of the West than Alaska or Hawaii. [I love Alaska, don't get me wrong. It's just not the West.] And...

First Load of Firewood ... SOLD!

Seems like you often think about the West. You ought to come out here and understand it a little better. I'm not sure about the restrictive rules you refer to. Can you give some examples, instead of a generality? I'm a fifth generation Westerner, born and bred. I've been east many times...

First Load of Firewood ... SOLD!

Most areas of the country burn for firewood whatever wood is locally available. In my part of the southwest, the in-demand firewood is either oak, pinon or cedar. Pine (generally Pondo) is not as demanded as these others for firewood. I've never been picky about what I burn. If you look up...

whats better to pull trailer with??

2 Dodge CTDs here I've got two 96 Dodge Cummins Turbos, 1 is an automatic, the other has the NV4500 5 speed. The auto I beefed up with a DTT valve body and torque convertor. It'll pull a house off its foundation. The manual I had my mechanic install the 5th gear nut upgrade kit. When he...

First Load of Firewood ... SOLD!

Arizona is a big state, almost three times the square area of Ohio with desert to alpine conditions.

Firewood bargains are out early this year.

Last winter I sold full cords for $275, half cords for $160 and rows for $65. [There are 3 rows to a half cord the way I stack my wood out of the back of my truck.] This was down in Albuquerque, either pinon or cedar.

so how hot has it been

High 80s to low 90s during the day. Drops to low to mid 60s at night. Been a desert rat all my life. Doesn't bother me.

To all you Southerners out there....

I've had the shipping department of a major retailer tell me they don't ship to "Mexico" when I give them my address in New Mexico. I've also had a clerk at UPS tell me the shipping will be more since they are sending it internationally (to Mexico, I guess), again when I give my New Mexico address.
