I am planning on going. Weather will be the factor. I have some Les Schwab super easy (I haven't tried them out) chains for the Tomato, but none for The Pointy Trailer so I want bare pavement. Please let the Siskiyou Weather Controllers know that. Then I think all I have to worry about is my road.

They usually sand Siskiyou Summit pretty good. Usually. If it's snowing between the summit and Yreka and they're throwing chains for Politician Hill you can duck off the freeway at the bottom by the rest area, drive down the river a ways and come into Yreka that way.

How 'bout cutting over to 101 somewhere in Oregon and just riding that all the way down?

The rest area route will set off bad memories of....Somes Bar and Orleans.:msp_ohmy:

Yup, I could do that cut over and it is in the planning as an alternative. I really like the drive along the Umpqua. Makes me want to fish.

Somes Bar? Orleans? Do people still go there voluntarily?

You're sure right about that drive along the Umpqua. When we came back from Astoria we cut across that way. I could live in that part of the country pretty easy.

Glad to hear more folks are planning on coming down. It's shaping up nicely. Now if the hacker crapola can stay away for the duration, then we'll get some more traffic here.

it look's like a go. i think torinocobra will be riding down also. any special arrangements i need to make to park the cargo?

I think your pickup and your trailer will fit in one of the regular camping spots. There aren't any hookups available but there's water close to every camp site and the showers (bring lots of quarters) have plenty of hot water.

Head up the GG side of the bay, free headed north...head back over 36 to Napa thence up to St Helena

At the intersection of Hwy 101 and I-280/I-680 in San Jose, I can head north either way. I-280 thru the SF Peninsula adds about 25 miles to the trip. Bridge toll without the trailer is $5. I own a top-of-the-line 4-season tent, a zero-degree sleeping bag with thermarest pad, and tons of cooking gear. However, I really enjoy the comfort and convenience of the travel trailer.

Leave is approved. I'm coming. I'll try to make it Friday.

Cool! Looking forward to discussing more forward thinking with you Nate.:D

I'm in. I'll have my 5 year old with me and possibly a friend who is an arborist.

Glad to hear it Bob.

Looking forward to seeing you and Sheldon.

Yep. Fraser's trailer won't be a problem.

22' trailer? Shouldn't be a problem No hookups though (as Bob said). I-680 would probably be less of a hassle, especially if you're coming through on Friday. If you go up I-680N you'll want to cut over towards I-80W at Benicia, then jump from I-80W to HWY-12 towards napa, and then north up HWY-29 towards the park.

That was weird. Kept getting error messages when trying to post. Now I go back a while later and two of my attempts made it through. This one was a duplicate. Looking forward to seeing everybody in a few weeks....

My not quite 8 year old would love to play with your 5 year old. The Used Dog loves kids and is kid proof. The Used Dog will have to be on a leash. That's the rules. Don't know about 5 year old leash rules. Tried to insert smiley face here.

Practice today. I think I've already messed up. I plan to come down early, so pie will not keep. I do not have an oven in my pointy trailer. So, today I am venturing into unknown territory--dutch oven baking and am attempting a huckleberry cobbler.

Note to self--start charcoal BEFORE making biscuits and putting them in berries.

Stay tuned for more notes.
