Which saw, 338xpt or 192t?

I'm not going to earning a living with it. Mainly side jobs and helping out friends and family. Honestly it would be used a few times a season.

That being said, I enjoy modifying engines. My camaro was stock for about a week before I Threw a set of gears in it, heads, cam.....It is a sickness.

What does the muffler mod entail for a 192t? You would have to rich-en the mixture right? Does this saw have a carb that can be adjusted? Also How do you "trim the H limiter?"

take the deflector off and you will see a hole. i open that up to the rectangle size. the deflector i also open up so the opening thru the deflector is as big as the actual deflector. and trimming the H limiter can be done on the saw with a very sharp blade. advancing the timing is fiddly, but very much worth the effort. need a dremel and a very small burr. I'll take pics tonite.

I want to see these pictures I have yet to advance the timming on mine didn't know much about it til the last couple of months.

I liked my 338's over the 200 for 1 handing balance myself. 338 with muffler mod runs dang good too. 338 hands down over a 192. No contest.

Finally a bit of extra support for the 338XPT!  Damn straight a muff mod makes this saw really rip. Never ran an extensively modded 192T, but i think i would choose my 338 anyway.

Likewise i like the feel and balance better than the 200T. I also prefer the feel and balance of my well worn 338 to my flash new T540. Everyone tells me i shouldn't but that's just me, i know I'm weird. Everything new has to be better and improved, or so i'm always hearing and reading. ;)

Who else has tried a lightly modded 150t? That is my go to saw now even on small removals and hazard reductions, cuts great

I have been dying to get my hands on one actually. Many times it would be all the saw i need for really small trees. As you say it would be the bees knees for hazard reduction work. From the dealer does it run picco 050 or 043? Surely 043 i'm guessing.

Was keen to try an Echo cs271 but it is around 3kg and the ms150 is something like 2.5kg. Also after how completely underwhelmed i was with my CS360T i will give the Echo a miss. I like their bigger cc rear handle saws but their top handles have not been a winner with me. Owned a CS600p many moons ago and it was as good as any similar stihl or husky i have used.

This 338 is a older 2004 model. From one of the above postings it is not the newer one.

With the 150, is it built more cheaply like the 192t or is it a pro saw like the 201? I have held it but stihl dealers around me don't let you try saws

Nope its not a clamshell, its a vertical split case just big enough to hold the bearings and crank and then that sits in a plastic chassis to keep the weight down.

Hmmm..... interesting. I think i might need to look more closely at getting one. $829 Aussie Stihl price is kinda scary though......... What do they sell for in the US?
