Good old style proper saw shop dealers are a dying breed at near extinction. What really pizzez me off with Stihl products is most of the time you must go through a dealer and roll the dice with some salesman who's knows next to nothing about their product range near always less than the person wanting to purchase. Always go armed with part no's, take a few deep calming breaths before entering the store and keep nicely explaining your needs untill they get it. Don't except the '20" bar trick' and gently explain the bolging pocket full of cash won't enter the register until we have what we want in our hand. No running off out the back with your new saw for the 20 second WOT cold start tack tune that always raises the blood pressure. Everything is to be NIB and that's how it will leave the store.

I was brought up with the adage " the customer is always right" as Iv'e aged I have amended that somewhat having been asked to provide or do work that I knew would not work, & then although the customer demanded it he would not have been a happy "chappie", so on a few occasions i have lost a sale or work ,but I have not ended with a guy being mad at me through his "incompetence" If i want to buy some article that I know is what I'm looking for & the seller argues or tries to sell me something I know is not suitable, or not what I asked for, I go elsewhere. My cash is worth as much at dealer 2 as it was in dealer 1 who tried to sell me something I didn't want or ask for, & dealer 1 has further lost out as even if I can't purchase what I'm looking for anywhere else ,I'd be very reluctant to return to dealer 1, so his out of pocket goes on long after the original problem over a sale.

VF you sure seem to have a lot of problems up there.

If I was you I'd suggest to contract with a "pack and ship" shop down in the lower 45 to receive all of your packages and mail you one large box weekly.

I always wondered why most of the Stihl saws i see are 20" bars, I guess this is why.

I bought a new ms290 in 2010 from this dealer, they put what I wanted on it then.

Might seem like 20" vs 18" doesn't really matter, but when cutting in a pile it means I can use the dogs more often.
I have a bad back so using the dogs puts less strain on me.

Plus all my loops are 18".

I have a 460 with a few long bars to pick when I need to cut big stuff. The ~60cc saws are my everyday use small saw.

I'm not following. I didn't mail order anything, I went to the dealer which is 2 miles away.

What issue did I have that a pack and ship place would fix? I don't know of a Stihl dealer that does mail order sales, plus shipping a saw is $50-70.

You've posted on here multiple times of issues with poor service and/or getting parts and supplies delivered up to AK. Surely there are dealers down here who would be easier to work with.

I don't think that was me. I haven't mail order Stihl parts in several years, we always use the dealer other than for aftermarket parts, and that's normally from Anazon.... free 2 day shipping!

It should not matter if the bar was the same size but maybe a different gauge If that's what you want that is what you should get not a refusal.

Are you not the guy with the bulk bag thread going over in the firewood section? I'd say there's a better way...?

Stihl doesn't allow their dealers to sell online, they try to support the local dealer.
Totally understand that. If it was me I'd ask for a referral to a good dealer from the guys on here and then order from that person elusively. Beats dealing with the local guy if they are a tool.

And if a guy lives in rural Alaska, the next dealer might be pretty far away.

Not exactly rural, around 400,000 people in a 50 mile radius from me.
Its nothing like what you see on those "reality" TV shows.

Never had an issue before, we buy parts from them almost weekly.

I've yet to hear back from Stihl HQ.
