I forgot to mention that the sound failed for 15 mins in the middle of the show. Some other channels had the same problem. Now I have to wait for a repeat of episode 2.
If you have DISH it is on again tonight. 6ish or 7ish I believe.

Ax Men is on The History Channel tonight at 10:00. (Comcast)
That climbing equipment looked scary old. What was that, an old sisal rope? And the leather straps on the spurs looked like they could fail just by strapping them on. I couldn't figure out what the problem was on that right spur? I was hoping to see some colorful duct tape I keep hearing about.
Cutting the downed wood looks pretty hairy too. I like that shot of the guy reaching way over sawing off an overhanging log and WHAM the log lets go. That's why the long bars huh?
That's a hard way to make a living, to any of you that do it!

I don't understand why they just didn't duct tape around his ankle and let him climb. Yes, the equipment was kludged, not a good place to "save" money. And the climber was slower than me...and I'm slow.

Most loggers around here still use steel core manila and belt but climb a h#ll of a lot faster. Its tradition single tye in big saw.
+1I don't blame him for going slow, seeing as the dang spur was falling off.

Kludged? Gotta check wikipedia for that one.
So I researched and answered my own question and will post for others who might care
I asked earlier about the domino-falling (using one tree to knock down another). I found this on the WA State Legislature website:
Now my new question is this: What was so dangerous about that 16" DBH tree? Why would you use a much larger tree to knock down such a wimpy tree? I guess the smaller "danger" tree could have kicked back off of a log on the ground but AFAICT he had endless possibilities for escape routes. He was cutting on the edge of the cut block and could've just ran right into the standing trees.
I know the show is filmed in Oregon but thought laws might be similar.
