Dolmar 5100s rebuild

I have attached some images of my 5100s cylinder and I am wondering if you guys think it’s salvageable? Back story, tuning on the saw was a little lean and saw needed a new piston and ring. I put a Redbarn piston and ring in it as that’s all I could find available. Took the saw to the woodyard and it would just not run right. Might have put a half tank of fuel through it. It pissed me off so I put it on the shelf for a little over a year and just used the Dolmar 6100. I torn into it today and seen when I put the carb back on the cylinder (pic attached) I must have torn the boot. If the cylinder is toast does anyone know of a decent jug, piston and ring for this saw?

By looks it is not "acceptable"... If you can feel the scratches by hand/nail it's gone! The surface treatment is thin... But have you measured compression out of curiosity before dissasembling?
New fully equiped piston and cylinder will not be cheap...
I would try a "big bore" kit since you might need a new one and you're "in there"! I almost bought a Makita 6421 hours before finding a new in box Makita 6100. The 6421 was barely used 1-2 tanks of gas but was thinking of turning it into an EA7900 right after buying. Since the stroke is the same with ea7900 ,it just needs a new piston+cylinder and the 6421 turns into an EA7900
Good thing the guy selling the 6421 changed his mind because he couldn't find any brand new Makita gas chainsaws(completely stoped production of gas chainsaws from Makita) and me I was able/lucky to find the last one makita 6100 in a forgotten store in a small town! Otherwise...Husqvarna would have been my choice

I don’t mind buying here and there where money allows, to keep it close to stock. Not really interested in going too much beyond stock with it. It was a great saw before I pissed with it. No I just have to pay

Do you lose anything by lightly cleaning it up with fine emery cloth + oil, re-assemble and check compression? It doesn't look too far gone to me.

It doesn't "look" too bad in the photos, but I don't have it in hand to look. I would try honing it and see how it turns out.

That cylinder is 100% salvageable. 400 grit emery and some penetrating oil will clean that transfer no problem. Run the same ring and piston you have. Open the high speed mixture screw a little and it’ll be fine.

The hone sounds like the way to go. I will grab a new piston and ring as well. I actually just bagged all the parts up and placed it on the shelf again as the boat transom needs replacing and I have a few saws, but only one boat. Hone is ordered though!!
