Last summer I had some logging done. Was a couple interesting days in the woods. I was out with the guy doing the cutting most of the time. I didn't do anything, and I got tired. Only saws he will use is a Husky 395. Amazed me how someone can carry and swing one of those all day long, day after day. I like using big saws, but I can cut for a little bit, then take a break, or quit. LOL Lotta respect for what they do.

Sounds like a local guy here. He is same way.

1 logger here I keep the saws going for. For felling he will use the 394's 395's with 20"-24". He stated he wants a saw with some azz behind it in the cuts. He tried the 385-390 and he couldnt stand them. Sold off.
I know what he means if you run both and dont want to mess around.

He also runs a 3120 woods port saw with unlimited coil and H side carb. I had him send to Jason Egan in ID for port work. Jason is a logger and knows what a working guy needs in a work saw.

Hey fellas I’ve been bumming around the partner thread. I’ve got a poulan 3300 I’m rebuilding the carb on was wondering if anybody knew if this is a Welch plug that needs removed on a HDA Walbro. It did not come in the kit anyway but thought I’d check with you poulan guru’s first. Thanks in advance for any help.
2700 to 3300 models, which ones had a double ring? I have a loose cylinder and piston and was just wondering.
They were all double ringed.

Need to measure your bore and tell if bare bore or chrome bore.

Poulan 335 predator and craftsman 3.3 black gold decal - piston. Left 1 ring 54cc

Craftsman grey 3.0 3.3 bare bores 2 rings thick 49cc 54cc 2nd and 3rd pics

Can check a 3300 I have a muffler off. Cant recall off hand.

Thinking 305 335 3000 were all thin rings x2

Thanks. This is a smaller one with a chrome piston. I have a complete 3300 that was scored and was thinking of putting the smaller cylinder on it. Here is the scored piston

I'll go check that 3300 with muffler pulled now.
Update.
Now it's a parts saw that I took in. It has 3300 on recoil but never confirmed bore. It has 2 thick rings chrome piston.

I know dad bought a poulan 3300 in 93-94 so I know it is original. See if I have any old pics of piston.

Pic of inside your cylinder and do you have bore size? You doing a craftsman 3.3? If so which color and color of decals.

Looking for some small victories this weekend, stopped by a scrap yard 2 weeks ago with the intention of getting a 3500 poulan for a fellow saw guy and also found a 3400 in fairly nice shape
( sans ignition) . Gave it a good cleaning and spare ignition, carb kit, vent line and fresh gas. Now she's a runner! Idles and cut nice . Had the original banana bar on it .20200508_132115.jpg20200517_100710.jpg20200517_100721.jpg20200517_100727.jpg20200517_100754.jpg
Now for a muffler mod next weekend.

Recoils may have been swapped at sometime. Piston measured a 1.8125

Seeing your good looking 3400 is making me want to get my old original 3400 out and run it again. I bought it new in spring of 1986. Was the only saw I owned until 2008. It never, ever let me down in all those years. It had a bar on it like the one in the pic, but was 18". I think that one in pic is a 16" I put on it just to have a bar on it. The only things I ever changed on that saw was plug, air cleaner element and bars & chain. Even ran it with a 20" bar for many years till I gat a 3700 & 4000, and seen how much stouter they were. Decided 18" was best on that saw. Many guys don't realize they were not a cheap saw back then. I paid just shy of $300 with tax back then for it. I can recall trying to choose between it and a 4000 with a 20" bar on it. The 4000 just seemed like more saw than I needed. LOL Don't seem possible now days.

Not many well used saws in that nice condition.

I finally found a decent yellow P5000 if you know what I mean.

That’s a good looking 3400 . I think the art on the bar makes them look so much better.

Gull darn it. I had been watching a bunch of 46 and 49cc saws on Ebay with the intention of building a sleeper saw in a little Poulan made Husky chassis. Of course now everything that has a reasonable price has sold in the past few weeks. Oh well I’ll keep looking.

Tim, I do know what you mean. I seem to have one of those sitting around that I started working on, Was needing something but know what it was. The 500 ran well. Nice light saw, kinda like a Poulan 3000. Will be getting it out to help with the lighter working on tops. Thanks again for that addition to the arsenal. That and my Husky are the only non Poulans I own. PoulanGTG 051.jpg

Yeah I think its easy for me to forget how much these cost new when I'm perusing piles in the scrap yard.
I bought 3 of them in parts and peices last year and put a complete one together for a young man at my job , his only other saw was the cheapest poulan he found at a retail store. He's doing a lot of work with the 3400 and I probably ruined him for plastic saws.
When I saw this one fairly complete and in decent shape I had to rescue it, and I'll keep this one as a companion for the 4200 I'm working on.

Gregg, still have mine that I bought new in the late 70's. Now have 3 others. In general they dont get much respect but we all know better.

Bob, Yours has to be an early 3400, when they first came out. Does yours have an adjustable oiler? Seen a few on here. I never had one. Ive got 3 other 3400"s, but none with the adjustable oiler. Another sign of an early model is the smaller screw setup on the rear handle. The air cleaner cover knob on Maintenance supervisor's saw looks like early style also. But those can are easily changed or replaced over the years.
Gregg,

I’ve got one early 3400 with the adjustable auto oiler. Per the Intertec Service manual, 2 turns out from fully seated is the factory starting setting. Not knowing that at the time, I had it set at 5 turns out, and it oiled about the same amount.

The pump volume starts at a regular oil pump’s “normal” level & adjusts downward in flow from there by screwing it in CW. I’m not sure what design function they were chasing after, as we AS members are taught to run all of our saw oilers on maximum to prolong the bar & chain life!

Maybe I can get a spare adjustable oil pump from those friendly Nigerian folks & pay them through Venmo, lol.
