Road and Track's Peter Egan wrote a column about this a few years ago and I thought it would be fun for AS members.

The basic idea is that you add up all of the cylinders, in all of the saws, trucks and equipment that you own and you come up with your cylinder count. All of the cars, trimmers, tractors, splitters, boats, ATV's, whatever. It's a test of manhood. The higher your cylinder count.........

A couple of rules so everyone is using the same yardstick:

The wife's car doesn't count.
All cylinders must be in running condition; blown up saws don't count.
Dealers like myself can't count store inventory.
Auto engines must not only be running, but must actually be in a vehicle. (doesn't have to be registered though)

So, what kind of cylinder counts are out there?

Me? I'm a 45, 7 of them saws.

Should be interesting. Maybe even Sap will smile!

Guess I should list them like you guys are doing.........

Dodge-8
Jeep-6
Maxima-6
1960 Olds 88-8
Saws-7
Exmark-1
Cub 128-1
mowers-2
trimmers-2
Snowblower-1
Red Max blower-1
Husky mini-tiller-1
Log splitter-1
And I forgot the Dolmar 309 cutoff the first time, so I'm a 46

How is about 40

without saws/the dead? that stihl run?

Saws - 5
Brushcutters - 2
Hedge trimmers - 2
Blower - 1
Generator - 1
Truck - 4

So I'm a modest 15...

Ok lets see,

1 Stihl 031AV chainsaw = 1
1 Stihl MS290 chainsaw = 1
1 Dolmar 114 chainsaw = 1
1 Jonsered 2036 Turbo chainsaw = 1
1 Stihl FS85 trimmer = 1
1 GMC 1 ton dually = 8
1 Model AA Ford = 4
1 Toyota Camry = 4
1 Wood splitter = 1
1 Evanrude Outboard motor = 2
1 Gravely Tractor = 1
2 Honda 4 wheelers = 2
1 Honda sap pump = 1
1 B&S engine on my wood elevator = 1

Looks like 29 running cylinders

Just added a Stihl MS180c, Make that 30!!!!!!!

You got it covered!

Saws - 5
Brushcutters - 2
Hedge trimmers - 2
Blower - 1
Generator - 1
Truck - 4

So I'm a modest 15...

Not a huge piston count, but look at your list, you got most of everything covered! That's what counts! The only thing you don't have that is real useful for all sorts of practical work is some kinda garden or farm tractor.

Right at 37 (I think). Used to have more, but sold the skid loader this year and the dump truck last year. Need to get back on it!

Oh my God, who dug this up? :msp_scared:

There was a time when I only had 7 saws? Hardly seems possible.

So, here's my updated count.

Saws: 122

Trucks: 24

Other equipment: 12

New total: 158

Been pretty productive the last 5 years, eh?

Seems I can't edit my prior post, but I forgot my Studebaker 4x4 truck. I need to add another 8 cylinders, that brings me to 291.

[EDIT] Once again I have proven that my reading comprehension can be lacking.... I thought that the question pertained to cylinders with spark plugs (thus excluding diesels), but it is strictly a cylinder count. I need to add the following

2 trucks - 16
1 track loader - 3
1 power unit - 4

Add another 23 for a total count of 314.
