I tell people that the definition of a chainsaw is a "high-maintenance precision instrument", in contrast to a hammer, and emphasis on the "high-maintenance" part.
I kinda like the oregon power sharp, it's really some aggressive chain! Can be rather grabby however, it's almost like chain used on a demolition saw. Great to go from full chain to sharp in less than 30 seconds! For a minute I though that this was the self-sharpening Oregon chain. Sharpening like that will really tear a saw up!
Maybe try some sort of costic soda on them first ( a good soaking ) and then a nice sand blast should bring them back just nice.I've only seen something like this once. Until I took a photo
Hard to believe anyone could spend that much money on a tool and show it so little respect.I've found the more dirt, grease, grime, the cheaper they are. They usually come clean enough to figure out what they are when I'm done with them.
This one, "ran out of gas and wouldn't restart."
It has basically a brand new: bar chain, air filter, clutch drum, fuel & impulse lines.
flippy caps were plugged.
It's coming along. Most of the white plastic and tanks cleaned up as expected. I haven't bathed the clam shell yet but the rest of the parts took a bath. The orange engine cowling and air filter cover need some shining up yet. I'll post some pictures when I'm done. I won't have time until the weekend again to work on it.Totally agree. Very expensive tool to just use and abuse. And like it keep saying, just keep it clean and serviced and they will go forever.
I bet that Stihl 290 looks great now.
As long as you saw that one, you might as well look over the Stihl 025 that the same guy supplied for restoration:Wow, that's in terrible condition. How do people treat chainsaws like that ? I have heard that the Stihl MS310 is a very good saw for it's size.

Not sure which one was in worse shape. Nevertheless, I restored them both and they run today by a new owner who paid for the repairs and vowed to take better care of them. Both required major work that the dealer rejected.
She cleaned up real nice. He ll it even cuts!Totally agree. Very expensive tool to just use and abuse. And like it keep saying, just keep it clean and serviced and they will go forever.
