So another chainsaw arrives and again it's another Mac10. I purchased this one from Tasmania over here in Australia. It's not stupid crazy dirty but still not good. All this dirt and **** makes the saw and coil run hot and then it fails.

For a minute I though that this was the self-sharpening Oregon chain. Sharpening like that will really tear a saw up!
I kinda like the oregon power sharp, it's really some aggressive chain! Can be rather grabby however, it's almost like chain used on a demolition saw. Great to go from full chain to sharp in less than 30 seconds!

I've found the more dirt, grease, grime, the cheaper they are. They usually come clean enough to figure out what they are when I'm done with them.
This one, "ran out of gas and wouldn't restart."
It has basically a brand new: bar chain, air filter, clutch drum, fuel & impulse lines.
flippy caps were plugged.

Hard to believe anyone could spend that much money on a tool and show it so little respect.

Totally agree. Very expensive tool to just use and abuse. And like it keep saying, just keep it clean and serviced and they will go forever.
I bet that Stihl 290 looks great now.
It's coming along. Most of the white plastic and tanks cleaned up as expected. I haven't bathed the clam shell yet but the rest of the parts took a bath. The orange engine cowling and air filter cover need some shining up yet. I'll post some pictures when I'm done. I won't have time until the weekend again to work on it.

I’ve gotten into a few projects that were self diagnosed by the previous owner. “Only needs.....” turn into a full rebuild plus more.

I like the pics with the anole living in the muffler

Wow, that's in terrible condition. How do people treat chainsaws like that ? I have heard that the Stihl MS310 is a very good saw for it's size.
As long as you saw that one, you might as well look over the Stihl 025 that the same guy supplied for restoration:

Not sure which one was in worse shape. Nevertheless, I restored them both and they run today by a new owner who paid for the repairs and vowed to take better care of them. Both required major work that the dealer rejected.

bleh I just cleaned out 4 Stihl saws, crazy dirty, and now I see this thread! :nofunny:.
Best bet they were stored in a hole in the ground.... :(

So the 025 was from the same owner ? seriously no. He shouldn't be allowed to own anything with a motor in it. Maybe he should try fishing for something easier.

Hey guys,

Got another saw last week Stihl 032AV, this time from a good friend who didn't want it anymore.

Well this was the chainsaw when I got it and while in the middle of cleaning it up.
