I went to an auction today up by Shell Lake WI, they had over 200 old saws on the bill. It was mentioned in the ebay/CL thread last night and I just caught wind of it this morning.

I met fellow member GrizzlyAdams86 up there, and a few other saw nuts that may or may not be members here. We waited almost 4 hours after the start of the auction before the saw sales started, there was a lot of, umm, antiques, yeah that's the word I guess.

It was definitely a buyer's market today. I'd say that 2 guys bought over 1/2 the saws, a bunch of others (me included) wound up with half a dozen or so, and there might have been a few there looking for specific saws, but I couldn't tell for sure.

I came home with 7 new saws, bunch of C series Homelites and a trio of McCs, including a 5-49 two man that will if nothing else make a parts saw for my neighbor's saw.

Besides the 5-49, I picked up a 1-51 and Super 55 Macs to keep my Super 44 and Power Mac 6 company, a C-5, C-7, C-72, and C-91 Homeys to go with my C-5 project, as well as a 254 Olympic parts saw due to my weakness for Italian orange saws.

A shot of the group on the trailer before I sent em to the shed till I can take a closer look at em:

None of these saws have a firm future yet, but I suspect I might be getting rid of a couple to fund projects already in process, and keeping some for myself.

Hope everyone here can experience a CAD gone wild day like I had today sometime!

Well, you certainly won me over with what you got there.

You know I have an Italian orange saw that in nice shape and a good runner I'd trade for something yellow all day long.

Nice grouping of saws. Was there a lot bidding going on to get what you brought home?

Last auction I went to I had to pay dearly for the SP125 I got. I am sure I am still on the top side of it but was hoping to shake any bidders out right away and that did not happen......and a war ensued to get that saw:msp_w00t:

Sometime it's totally worth the money. :) There are times where money can in fact buy a little happiness.

I'm sure if I had the money, I would've won that last auction on the 797 that was for sale... :)

That may be true but left the auction feeling well some what violated:msp_scared:

Once it is running I am sure I will recover:laugh:

I quit at my max bid on probably a dozen saws.
Being the son of a farmer and a part time farmer myself, I've learned to have a top bid and stick to it.

The 5-49 cost me $10 more than I wanted to pay, did not get my arm and number down fast enough. No big deal, though, I have a use for it even if went for $1...

Somehow, I never got into the ebay thing, I've been against internet bidders at live auctions and it sucked. I enjoyed seeing and talking with the guys that outbid me today. I hope they're members here, they've forgotten more about saws than I'll ever learn.

Steve you hit on something big to remember at auctions. Set a limit on an item and stick to it. Have seen many folks get caught up in bidding and pay to much. This happens often on tools where you could go to the store and get brand new for what they payed.

What size bar is that C5 Have? Im looking for another C5 :msp_w00t:

Will check, but thinking about 20". This C-5 will probably donate some parts to the C-5 project that I'm working on right now, but let me know if you need some parts and I'll keep ya in mind.

Glad to see you made it up there! Saw the bill but we were all hands on deck at the shop so could not make it.

Ya mean all hands on decks? Guessing the mower business is picking up right now. Gonna stop up maybe tomorrow and give ya just a bit more work to do.

'Bout 30 miles west. I'm between New Richmond and Osceola, just north of Cedar Lake Speedway a couple miles.

Thanks guys!

you suck. :msp_biggrin: no reallly, nice score. a dream come true. glad you got to indulge yourself. what you doing with the 254?

Not real sure yet, it's locked up, but the price was right. Might have some parts to fit my 261. Got one of them rare AF covers that ain't broke yet on it.

Got any plans for that C91? I need a parts saw or a p&c.

Like I mentioned, I'm gonna give these a thorough once over before I decide what I'm doing with any of them. Might be a while, but I'll put ya on the list if I decide to part with it. The 91 in particular I know very little about internally, the recoil rope was broke so I don't even know if it turns over.
