Hey guys went up and spent the afternoon/evening with member friend zogger (mark) 1.5-2 hr drive from me last Saturday at the farm he lives/works at (he is a farmhand has a house on the property). We cut him up some wood and I took some home with me (for my fire pit at my townhome no wood burning fireplace-gas one instead) also going to save some for emergencies/to cook with too...

Ran my muffler modded 660 with dual port muffler and heavy duty air filter 25 inch bar Stihl Rsc chain. Masterminded Stihl 084 3 foot bar Oregon full chisel chain I believe ported muffler modded high flow air filter. Masterminded makita 6401 with 7901 top end muffler mod and high flow air filter. 20 inch bar with Stihl Rsc chain. Stihl 012 16 inch or 18 inch bar safety Stihl chain. Dolmar 3410 top handle saw with safety chain 14 inch I believe. Maybe 12 inch.

660- 92cc 7hp
084 122cc 8.2hp
6401- 79cc
012- 45cc
3410- 34cc

I also have a dolmar 5105 and 009L but kept those at home.

Mark and my 084...

Me using marks echo 8000. First time using an echo saw. Very well built saws I must say. Good power. Japanese quality as to be expected.

Filmed with my iPod touch.

Oh the tractor is a deutz with double axle trailer.

I was sore for a few days after. But worth it for the fun I had.

Hope you guys enjoyed the videos.

Sounds like a good time. Its always great when you can put a face to a forum name, and be able to enjoy some cutting together.

Looks like you fellas had fun!
I like that 6401:rock:
What no Fiskar vid?

I saw a lot of saw dust coming from that Stihl 084. If you could only turn the saw dust into logs. ;) Nice job with the videos, and the saws sounded great!

I went back later and busted up those rounds and had some fiskars (and maul and sledge and wedge...) fun. Two of them were so heavy I could *not* get them flipped up to noodle so busted them where they sat. Of course I did manage to find the old barbed wire in there...that's all that discoloration you see in the wood.

ya big fun!

I think that first cut in the base of the oak log chewed through some real old wire. I found remnants later on. Still though it was roostertailing pretty fair! All of them really. That 660 was hanging real good with the 084 in that size wood. I'd like to see a couple more feet of bar on that 084 in bigger wood though, I bet it still pulls hard, that's the impression I got from it. And that dolmar is a hotrod for sure.

Josh- it was bitter sweet seeing that 7901. Looks like it was hauling ass. Nothing like a Mastermind saw.

It's weird seeing someone else running my old saw. :msp_biggrin: That 660 is really stout to be stock. It always was a pretty hot saw. I don't know what it is about it but I think breaking them in right makes them stronger. By breaking in right, I mean running the crap out of them from the first start.
Glad to see Josh enjoying it.

Did you resharpen the 660 after 6:23-6:24 on the vid 660 and dolmar? As you hit the ground with the chain and it became quite dull in the cut seconds after that. If a ported 120cc 084 is comparable to a 660 in a dry 3 foot plus oak log, thats itself become dull, then id prob reckon it has something to do with the chain-barbed wire would explain that. Or perhaps which saw got dull later and was sharper in the cut longer. If the 084 hit the wire right at the beginging of the cut and the 660 hit the ground at the end that would explain it.

You might wanna switch to carlton .404 semi chisel on that 084 for conditions like that and get their 3/8 semi chisel for the 660. Holds up a lot better in downed wood and a bit better to if dirt is hit, although hitting the ground is hell for any chain.

--I don't know the timing but I know chains got swapped out. Yep, they got dull grubbing down into that oak.

hey Josh! All your links didn't show up! 660 noodling then running the echo 8000.

Damn, I really like that 6401! Whoever was doing the commentation was absolutely hilarious as well.

That Echo was a bear to start. And when it finally got running, it was completely flooded out. Sounded like it needed a carb adjustment. I know that the wood is extremely hard, but it looked like the Echo didn't really cut that well.

What's weird is I usually start that thing in three pulls. Sometimes just two*. Yes, it could probably be leaned a little bit on the H screw, but I had it set for much larger wood I was cutting previously and it was running better in those size logs.

edit: Also like I said in the vid, I cold start saws on the ground, I never drop start them, especially a larger saw like that. It's just too hard for me to do that anymore (I admit it) I don't know if that makes a whole lotta difference.
