Started in Idaho, ended up in Virginia!
Another member started a thread on a 350 and felt that the conversation was taking away from it, so here.

I replaced a plastic intake on the Husky 350 that had the snap on plastic clamp. Removed that and installed the Husky replacement part and metal band. I've seen several members mention using a 372 clamp... tried that and speared my finger with a screwdriver. Went back to the band and with a little effort was successful.

The 372 clamp didn't seem to really want to fit either. It was extremely tight with it slightly screwed in and wouldn't slip over the boot. When unscrewed all the way, I couldn't get the clamp in a position to get the threads started. Any tips for the 372 clamp in this application or do you just use the band? Does it only work if you cut the plastic clamp off for using the 327 clamp or what?

Thanks,
Randy

You will have to trim off all of the plastic. The 372 clamp should only touch rubber when you have the plastic trimmed.

I don't have the PN#, but there is an alternate clamp to the metal pos band. I've used both. Why anyone would prefer the band clamp is beyond me.

I'm not referring to the 372 either. I believe both PN#'s are listed on the tech bulletin

I just went through this with a 359. Plastic clamp was really loose, not doing anything. Cut the plastic clamp off flush and tried a band clamp. Still leaked. So I ordered the new partition and a 372xp clamp.

The 372 clamp was a really tight fit, had to put over the intake while it was screwed together before I put the intake boot on the cylinder. Took a little wiggling back and forth but it worked.

i used a clamp from a stihl ts400 concrete saw . it was 34mm or 35mm dia. and went over the trimmed plastic clamp without having to unscrew it.

edit: called stihl, it's 36mm dia.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who speared his finger trying to get the 372 clamp on!

Couldn't for the life of me get it to fit, and then ended up trimming too much plastic so that the impulse hose (think thats what it is) no longer made a seal.

Ended up scrapping that idea and bought the replacement version for the 350. Cost $8 and all good now.

But then I ripped the gasket trying to get the cylinder back on

So off to get some gasket paper. Third time lucky. Just gotta hope that the saw holds vacuum and pressure after all this.

Good luck.

Good luck. I've had a difficult time getting a good seal around the impulse nipple. Took me 5 tries at removing cylinder and adjusting carb boot.

Don't do that! I did that you don't have any support for the impulse line. It was on a customer saw and once I realize what I did I recalled it and fixed it for free! I shave the tabs down smooth with the file and I use the band style 372 clamp with absolutely no problems. I'm sorry to hear you guys have so much problems with that band clamp, I have done 3 and had no problems whatsoever. Good luck I hope it all works for you!

I always hacksaw the plastic clip off of the original intake and use the band off of the intake of a Stihl 029 or 044. Works a treat every time.

Nice. That's how I ended up but only after using a longer clamp screw. You're a better man than me if you didn't have a problem with the oem 372 clamp.
BTW, saw passed pressure test but failed vacuum test and the leak isn't at the seals. Any ideas?

The leak could be the seal between the base and the saw chassis. Or around the circumference of the bearings where they meet to the case and the base adapter. The 4 350's I have been in, the seals have leaked when re using bearings.

Just a thought.

BTW is the base gasket sealed good?

The metal clamp designed for the 353's, 346's, 359's, etc. are super easy to use and come with the new partition. Why struggle with something else? I can see if maybe the intake has to come off the jug a bunch of times then life would be easier with a screw clamp - but for a once and done deal the proper clamp is a snap, literally :)

And you guys are installing this with the jug pulled from the saw, right?

I have only used the 372 clamps on 60-80 of the 346s and I have never had a leak at the impulse line. You guys have to be doing something wrong.

I've used the new partition and clamp on a couple saws.

Also trimmed tabs and used 372 clamp on a couple. Never had any problems with either.

Cutting the complete plastic clamp off isn't the way to do it.
Cut just the tabs, or use the new partition

That clamp is the same as what they used on some of the older 268 and 272s on the air filters. I have used those but I mostly use the 372 clamps.

Yes, the new ones are easy-peasy. Installing a previously used clamp is a little harder.
