I just missed a nice looking 70E on my local CL. Held off on going to check it out because it was about 3 hours away. Seeing Chris's saws made me rethink it........but the listing has been deleted by the seller...

where did you find that 81 at? Those don't show up very often.

Sad to say, they were all Ebay buys. But not I'm not too sad.

Real nice looking low hr saws for the age of them....hardly any paint worn from the usual places.....Nice!!

The 621 does show some age, but you are right about the other 2.

I've wanted an 81 ever that short time member showed up here awhile back with his find and Cliff ended up with it. Just a great looking and running saw. Not too flashy, not even that loud, just solid.

Chris B.

I'll vouch for that 81! Nice saw.

After I got to run it I tried to hide it so Chris would forget to take it back home with him. :hmm3grin2orange:

You see that trick didnt work.

Well I look at specific things on the older Jonsereds to form a judgement as to condition and use...One of the first things I look to for onfo is the trigger handle...all three of yours show very little wear from human hands holding the handle. Generally you can't use the top or sides of the very end of the handle as this gets wear from just being moved around...however the area right around the trigger really tells the tale...like the drivers seat of a used car/truck...if it's being used there a human in the seat or holding the trigger handle. The other thing with the the "Silver Tops" is the silver paint is rather wimpy and reveals any scratch, dig or bang...even NOS tops I've seen look used....also with robust hrs the 621 top is very liable to show cracks usually right around the air filter hole. On the other hand the black on the 66E/70E and 81, 801 and 90 is very thick and tough paint and is harder to gauge overall condition from. But for me the trigger handle is the best way, just from looking, to know the time on the saw. Check out trigger handle on the 80 above in paccity's post......now that saw probably runs fine but it has cut a lot of wood in it's life....none of your trigger handles show any way near that much wear. As I said three very good saws in very good, light use condition...for the age...you are very lucky indeed!!!

Trying to find a part # for crank seals. Haven't found an IPL for it. Will seals for a 70e work?
Bob

Yes original part # 504 14 62 00 fits the 49, 52/52E, 601, 62, 621, 66E/70E, 751 80, 81, 801, 90 and perhaps others.

If you go aftermarket you need a 15MM X 30MM X 7MM and make sure you get a double lip seal...

threw some fresh mix in this and it fired right up. a little stinky at first, was going to stick in some wood real quick and decided not too.:msp_unsure: anyone want to guess why? and i wonder if it's the same thing it went to the saw shop in the first place.:msp_wink:

Looks to me like the chain is on backwards. Not much left of it either.

Just found some info that shows the 80e crank seals as # 4146200. Out dated number perhaps? Wait. If I add a 50 to the beginning its the same part #. Wonder what's up?

I believe that the 504, 503 #s are mfg. indexing numbers and the last 6 #s are the actual part #....but regardless, the seals, are as stated, all the same 15 X 30 X 7 and will fit all yrs of the above stated model..

Last night my gf and I stopped in at our local bar and we ran into some friends of ours. They have owned a logging business for yrs with his kids and father. I struck up a conversation with him about saws and he said he has a whole corner of his shed stacked with burnt up saws and jonsereds being there saws of choice. I was wondering which saws to look for and which ones to stay away from. Also throwing out there if anyone is looking for parts that they may have or saws pm me and let me know. Ty in advance for any help

Any thing that isn't completely clapped out. A silver top or an 80 or 90, a 49sp or a 52e, a 920/930.
I'd shy away from the plastic ones.
P/C can be hard to find. If they are like most logging outfits, a broken up saw may mean the P/C are usable, so find a complete mate to any of those and you may be in business.

I'm thinking that either they are gonna be either fired p&c or roasted bearings. Is there any saws that where notorious for egging out the cases to make them unusable?

Turbo 2149 chain brake jammed ?

Hi Guys...I picked up a JRed Turbo 2149 at a garage sale yesterday . The chain hung down off of the bar which was canted out at an angle . I asked the sweet young thing what was wrong with the saw and she said that according to her husband it just needed some TLC and maybe some small parts (he had purchased a new saw and didn't want to #### around with this old one). For $20 dollars asking price the saw came home with me .
Later on in the evening I was able to remove the bar and chain by carefully prying off the sprocket/chain brake cover .(The chain brake strap(?) was clamped around the sprocket drum .)
My problem now is how to release the strap from the clamped on/kickback position . There doesn't appear to be any broken parts or pieces inside the cover . I tried moving the three-legged star-shaped levering device back into position but it is jammed good .
I have unsuccessfully searched for a schematic .
Any help would be most appreciated .
I have three other older (heavier!) Jonsereds that have been retired and a couple of Huskies(heaviest) semi-retired . I need a lighter saw for cutting firewood because those trees and saws keep getting heavier every year.
