Up here in the frozen north, Lowes is selling a Remington for $289 that has to be a Zenoah and Canadian Tire is selling a Champion for $250 that must be an Earthquake. In the USA you can buy either of these saws in their original shape for less than $100, so who's getting rich? I'm guessing that if a company buys a container of these saws from the factory, they pay less for a saw then we would for a good chain. Where does the transformation from straight factory saw to a company name brand take place? Can the factory be contracted to produce a saw with different paint and plastic covers to match any new look, or is there a company out there that specializes in doing it at a reasonable cost? No, I'm not thinking of starting up my own line of saws, just curious about the process.

I'm almost certain that the factory produces them however the customer orders them. I know in the generator world companies like Loncin rebrand the same generator (3500w inverter) for several manufacturers (Powerhorse, Predator, Anteng, Bear Cat, and several others) They offer all kinds of options, you pick the color, decals, outlets, output type (120-240, 50/60hz) and they make as many of them as you want. Everyone gets a really inexpensive but reliable unit that has their name on it.

I'm guessing part of the price difference would be in the quantity of the order. I don't see Cambodian Tire or Canadian Lowe's selling nearly the number of saws in Canada as does any single company in the States. Simple economy of scale. Also, Canada Customs is a real piece of work to deal with at the best of times. That adds to expense.
