Stihl MS 291 burnt out after 1 hr

I doubt you would have notice any vibration. My theory is that the clutch only slipped a short time while bucking the log and then was done. Just posting what came to mind when reading about the saws failure.

Stihl MS 291 burnt out after 1 hr

West041 any new tool like a saw should really be broken in before running it hard. Some people will say it takes a few tanks of fuel for the rings to seat. I always go easy on a new saw the first couple tanks.

Stihl MS 291 burnt out after 1 hr

I have an idea about the saws failure. A clutch will not hold its max load until it is broken in and the shoes are seated to the drum. As a mechanic when replacing an AC compressor the instructions would say to turn the AC on and cycle the clutch 50 times under load to burnish the clutch. So...

New here, need help with Stihl MS361 carb

The 1 turn open is just a starting point to get the saw to run. It needs to be adjusted from there. The saw should have a clean air filter and be warmed up some then tuned in the cut. Do a search there's some good step by step instructions.

    topping and limbing saw??

A ported 261c with 18'' bar running 3/8 chain would be pretty stout. But you probably will be able to bog it with the bar buried. I used to bog my 362 with a 20'' bar I think an 18 would be perfect stock.

    topping and limbing saw??

I usually switch over to the 441cm when the log is over 12 inches or so.

    topping and limbing saw??

The 362 is a bigger heavier saw than the 261. I had no problems using it but I usually only cut a truck load at a time. You should check it out in person to see what you think. I prefer the 50cc 70cc plan for my firewood needs. I run my 441c with a 20 inch bar and usually try to cut oak trees...

    Question on MS-362?

The 362c with the M tronic will be a step up from the regular 362. The M tronic adjusts the fuel and timing continuously for max performance. It also makes for a very easy starting saw.

    topping and limbing saw??

I had the regular 362 as a one saw plan for firewood it worked really well. If it was an Mtronic with the new upgraded air filter I would have kept it. Now using a 261 and 441cm excellent saws. I use the 441 for felling and bucking the bigger logs and the 261 for everything else. The 261 get...
