Wood milled w/ GB 36" mill!!

That's actually pretty good time, I found that if I sharpened the chain after every 2 tanks of gas, I could make pretty good time. I also got myself a winch setup similar to the one in Will Malloff's book, haven't really used that yet, though. I'm waiting for it to get cold before I start...

Wood milled w/ GB 36" mill!!

the only "problem" to using green wood for construction is when it dries, there will be pretty large gaps between the boards. For some things, that's not a problem at all. How long did it take you to mill all of that wood up? I"ve got 4 20"+ x 8'6" oak logs to mill now, going to get another...

    electroucted

Re: Re: Re: I got to ask, 'cause I don't know.. this mostly happened before the days of polarized plugs (the one prong wider than the other). These days, all 3 prong plugs will only go one way, as will the two prong ones, with all appliances, the nuetral line is attached to the chassis, in...

    tree identification?

what do you mean 95% species rating? yeah, i like the free wood, but I hate to see them cut the trees down. but it's in danger of blowing into his garage or house.

    tree identification?

a friend is going to take down a few trees, told me I can have them if I want them, I think it's some type of oak, but I'm not sure, I didn't see any acorns on it, though, but I had to climb up on a pile of dirt to swipe these leaves.

    First try at milling

cool deal. I'm more into the late model stuff. I just dumped $750 on suspension stuff, and am about ready to dump $1600 into a new transmission. I'm aiming to run an 11 on my "stock" engine, I haven't been to the track since last oct when I messed up the synchros in my mustang. I'm jonesing...

    What size chain is this??

I spied a roll (or what's left of it) over in a friend's garage tonight, I was talking to his dad, it was 1/2 round/chipper chain. He told me I could have it if I could use it, I don't figure my saw would ever pull it, and on top of that, I don't have any links to put it together anyways...

you might find better, but you'llnever pay more

it probably would cost $70 to ship that thing via mailboxes etc or someplace like that. I made that mistake once on a set of Hubs, my local UPS shipping store went out of business and I went to Mailboxes Etc, I lost my ass on that deal, I had to pay like $25 for what UPS charged like $10 or so.

    Chains

If the bar is a sprocket nose, you can only use the correct pitch chain on it, if it's a solid tip or a roller tip (not very common these days), you can use any pitch chain, provided the gauge is correct. that oregon manual has a lot of information in it, you can learn a lot by reading it...

    Chains

the pitch is the size of the chain links, specifically the length across three rivits divided by 2 (3/8 pitch will be 3/4 when you measure across 3 rivits). guage is the width of the drive link and how it fits in the corresponding bar. there are various cutter types depending on what you...

    horsepower vs. displacement

the compression ratio has very little to do with fuel consumption. air:fuel ratio is what burns good, the gas has no idea what compression ratio the engine is. higher compression ratio's typically need higher octane ratings, but that's due to the possibilities of pre-ignition, or knock...

    2 stroke animation with header

that's a cool animation. I've been trying to find some info on expansion chambers/tuned pipes, but have been coming up a bit short. I made up a spread sheet for specific dimensions, but I'm not sure if the stuff is close to right or not, I'd like to compare the numbers to one that works... the...

    First try at milling

I've thought about using a ladder, just haven't had one around to try when I've been milling. I use a cordless drill to drive the lags. The only double headed nails I could find around here were in a 50lb box at lowes, I don't need (or want) that many. for me, i find it easier to mill from...

    First try at milling

it's very fast to set the jig up for the first cut using a level and lags into the slab. regardless of the method, it's going to take a little time to set up to make the first cut, and insure that the cut is one one plane and not twisted. what do you use for clamps?
