    Broke my SS today.

Glad your back up & running. I don't recall seeing a shim on mine, but I'll take a look this week when I take mine out of storage. I've run through plenty of nasty pieces but haven't had any issues yet.

    Wallenstein FX35 skid winch

While I don't have the fx35 or know anything about it, I do have the Farmi JL290. I have it on a Kubota B7610 which is similar to the weight of your tractor. I am constantly amazed at what that winch and tractor will pull in weight & items. I haved pulled everything from logs, trees, cars, &...

    Skidding winch for the tractor

Chipper, Something to check about the pull on the winch. Last summer I was having a problem with my farmi getting weaker on the pull. I also figured that I neede to adjust the clutch, and after talking with a couple local farmers who have bigger units that is what I did. It did pull a little...

    DR broke down now :(

When I bought my DR, it had to be repaired twice within 2 months. I had been on the fence about the Super Split & the DR. I was worried that if it went down twice it that short a time, what would happen after the warranty was up. I returned it for my refund and bought the Super Split. That...

    What to get?

I've read a lot of good reviews on the CS-590. I will be stopping by the different dealers to look the saws over & get a feel for them. I havn't set a firm budget, but I'd like to stay close to the $400 range.

    What to get?

I was bucking up a bunch of trees Saturday morning and was just about done when the saw ( Husky 355 Rancher) made a hiccup sound and died. Still has compression, but does not want to start. So that night I tell the wife that the firewood production has come to a halt until I can get the saw...

Well who's got a summer plan?

I am planning on dropping a bunch of trees in the next few weeks. Then once it firms up, I'll go out & skid them out to split & stack. I would like to be done by June, no later than the 2nd week at the latest.

    Eastern White Pine

When we built our house I had some big pine ( 18" - 36" ) logs stacked as the intent was to have them milled for lumber for the barn. That was 4 years ago. Last fall I thought I'd cut some rounds off & try it as kindling. Those logs were still very wet. I was quite surprised. On the plus...

    New SS HD

Welcome to the club! You are going to like using that machine. I also have the Subaru, and agree, it uses very little fuel for splitting. It starts either 1st or 2nd pull for me every time. If you are splitting bigger rounds, watch some of the videos Paul has on youtube. The way he handles...

    Strapping bundles?

I would like to get either a strapping or wrapping machine myself. I just don't sell enough bundles to justify the cost.

    bundles sold out!

Uncle, I also got into the bundle business this past fall. I make my bundles similar to Zoggers. I use a bushels basket to fill it up. Each bundle gets 3 regular splits & 4-5 smaller spits. I use a hand held shrink wrap roll to wrap & then flip it to do the other end. I also include a small...

What Kind of Pine/Evergreen Do You Burn?

Of the pine family on my property it is mostly Eastern White pine and some Hemlock sprinkled in. I just started burning the white pine this year and love it.

    100 Deg Club 2014-15

I won't make the 100 club, but dang I pushed hard and made it to the 80 club. Right now it is 0 outside and The thermometer is showing 80 in here. I love it....sitting in t shirt & shorts with a nice frosty one watching the flames wicker away. Supposed to get down to -11 later tonight...but...

    firewood tractors

Dancan, Nice setup and trailer. How do you unload the logs? I always think I need to get a trailer, but my terrain is too steep for my little tractor. It is just as easy for me to skid the logs out.

    Thoughts on fireplace inserts

Congrats on becoming a homeowner! My insert is my backup heat source for my geothermal heat. I run it just about every day like a fireplace. We lost power over Thanksging, & the insert operated like a wood stove. Kept the house at 72 for 4 days.

    SuperSplit rack return issues...

TreeTangler, That is what Sandhill Crane is talking about in his last post. He called the mfg and the Owner answered on the 2nd ring. The parts to fix it are already on the way.

    The Economy of Wood Heat

Nothing warms you like wood heat! That being said, when we built our house, we put in geothermal as I didn't want to be married to a OWB. I burn just for ambiance and have a fire just about every night. The fireplace is our backup heat source for when the power goes out. We lost power...

Uninsulated houses in the northern mid west.

You definetly want to have a blower door test done. It can tell you where the leaks are and how bad they are. You should be ale to get a free test from the electric utility....PSNH, Unitil, ect. Ect. Check their websites for more information. When we built our house we had to have the test...

    Done with shoulder wood yet?

I'm just starting to burn now, so I am just starting into the shoulder wood pile. I actually just added 2 more loads to the pile tonight as I sit here now in front of the fire with a cold beverage.
