Air filter has not been a problem for me either. If you're gonna cut for days at time & not touch the air filter, then I suppose the Husky would be a better option, but to me it's not an issue. I also don't understand the vibe complaint, I have spent some long days cutting with my 460 & never had any problems. I guess everyone is different though. The 372 is a good saw, you won't go wrong with whatever you choose, but if you want a Stihl, I would suggest the 460 over the 441.

Well said and :agree2:

There is a lot of misinformation in this thread.

The 441 WILL outcut a 440 every time. It WILL cut right on the heals of a 460. It is also constructed just as well as any other Stihl pro saw. And it's worlds smoother and easier on fuel than either the 440 or 460.

I've run all 3, and a 372, in the same wood with the same bar length and chain.

If the small difference in weight makes people upset then they need to grow a pair.

ha ha ha, I totally agree with ya there on the weight issue. There is too much dam squabbling about the dam weight of saws. Yup, grow a pair, and have a second set ready just in case you need to pick up a 90cc+ saw.

Lake Tahoe is over 6k feet altitude, right? Haven't we had several complaints/problems with the 441 carb at higher altitudes. I'm wondering if this is why the dealer was dissin' the 441.

Just askin,

Yeah, I live at 6300 and cut a lot around between 6000 and 7300. That could be the reason. He was seriously not into them. Kind of cool to have a guy that honest, most people will try and sell you anything to get it off the books.

Yah, from what I've heard about strato saws at altitude, I'd get a 372/440/460/7900.

Yeah, a lot of the cutting is a fairly high elev here. I cut firewood near where a good size cut just finished up and that is around 7500'. I thought I read once someone here complained about the 441 at high elevation, but I couldn't find any specifics in searches.

just because you have a hard on for your 441 doesnt mean you are right.

why would i, as a professional fulltime saw using mofo such as myself, make things up or give out misinformation.

remember i cut for a living now. i have used the saws you mention. and out of the the saws you mention that 441 would be the very last one that i would use. the very last.

why do you ask? because it is missing something "in the cut". what, i can not fully answer for you but it doesnt pull the way it should. call it what you want but i can only recommend to the OP that which i would use.

thank you very much.

You may have a hard time finding what it's missing, because it isn't missing anything at all. How can it be lacking if it outcuts the saws of the same displacement? You say it doesn't cut like a 70cc saw, yet it pulls long bars with more authority than either an 044 or 372?

The pro's around here seem to like the 441 and are replacing the old 044's with them slowly.

I'm not a full time tree guy, but I make a fair amount of money with my saws as well.

Bring down an 044, 046 and 372 and we'll see how they stack up. Who knows, maybe you had a sick 441 or I've got a ringer.

Says that it doesn't run right, for whatever reason. Called it a part-time saw.

I'm between the 372 and the 460, not going to buy the 576, I don't like to buy the first of any production run, trucks or saws. Just trying to wrap my mind around the price difference between the 372 and the 460. However the Stihl guy is right down the road, so that could come in handy.

That dealer is full of BS although if he is a pizz poor tech then yeah the strat charged saw may give him a fit. I feel sorry for him if he really feels that way about the 441 because come in alittle over 14 months all Stihl saws are gonna be like that 441, whats he gonna do then,LOL

I got a 044, 441,046/460 and a 372. In the cut there isn't enuff differance between the 4 to write home to moma about, they are that close. They all run like a 70cc range saw. How close is a 441 and a 046/460, have a look and see for yourself. BS is easy but cameras don't lie. Enjoy.

Nice vid. I had to laugh about the hair part though.

you're crazy.

I've never had a chance to run a Stihl 441 or 460, but this past weekend I got to run a Husky 372xp, and a Dolmar 7900 almost back-to-back. Both had 20" bars, and the Husky was cutting a 17-18" oak, while the Dolmar was cutting probably a 14" pine. The Dolmar, while not really a fair comparison, was maybe only marginally faster.

In that range of saw, I'd find it awfully hard to beat the 372xp, it was that impressive to a first time user like myself. It had turck-loads of power through the 17" red oak, and the A/V felt so smooth. (Chain was round-ground Oregan chisel.) On paper, I'd find it hard for the 441 or 460 to be a "better" saw. If I recall, both are similar weight and power, but I would imagine that the 460's rubber mounts wouldn't be close to the comfort of the Husky's spring a/v mounts. Something to consider when using a saw for a period of time. Plus, the price between the 372xp and the 441 and 460 make the 372xp that much more attractive. But like I said, to be fair I've never run a 441 or 460, so this is simply my speculation.

you want informed? the 441 sucks. and you are a sucker for buying it when there were plenty of better options out there.

not my fault you are now married to a POS, saw wise.

good luck with it!

Hahaha....just what I was looking for.

Thanks for righting me in my ways.:monkey:

Did you figure out what it's 'missing' in the cut yet?
