Remember the old warning -- don't run a synthetic oil until the rings are seated !! Wonder if it holds true for saws ?? What I couldn't understand about that statement was for example the chev. corvette they say comes from the factory with synthetic oil already in the vehicle . Supposedly the synthetic oil is to slippery to let the rings seat ?????????? I figured I run the 6-pak of husky oil through it and then decide whether to try and find the husky XP or go to the Amsoil brand . I run Amsoil in other engines and equipment but the one thing I like about the better chainsaw co. oils is that they do add a fuel stabilizer to there oils , not sure if Amsoil does this .

Old crock of sh?t, at least in Stihl saws...

which brings a question on stock saws - 89 or 91/93 octane :greenchainsaw: :buttkick:

as for the stihl oil - it was just I wondered if the dealer was making a killing
on the small bottles that sell for $$$... and I don't have any 14,000 rpm
2 stroke engines except my 361 !!

They're wanting you to burn it up and buy a new 357xp. :censored:

honestly - should i pull the head and look at the cyn. walls ???

If'n it's really bugging ya, ya'll could just pull the carb and muffler. It might get ya half decent look at both sides of the piston & rings. Might even get ya a peek at the carb side cylinder wall.

I thought Klotz oil was the best smelling oil??
I know Klotz and Amsoil works.
I run Husky motorcycles on Klotz for years before I ever used a chainsaw!!!
Used Amsoil on everything thing else I own except for my Diesel PU.
Just got a New Makita/Dolmar 401 think I am going to try Klotz again.
With Stihl as everything they have I think your paying for the name more then anything else...:chainsaw:
I am not a big wood butcher...by I rode many a miles flat out!!!

thats the only real issue I have with going STIHL OIL... I know KLOTZ and it's just like Royal Purple in that states it can/is for TWC (jetskis), motorcycles, etc, etc...

I guess a fair question 2 ask for Andy and Lake is if they 2 started using something else besides stihl oil - what would it be??

I may send off a sample of STIHL to blackburns ?? lab to run and see whats in it - compare to others

Stihl synthetic oil is made by Castrol. In germany I think. It is very good oil. Every saw runs different on different oil. Example.... My echos hate Husky XP (really smokey& clogs spark screen.) They love Echo oil and Stihl oil and Redline. My Poulan and Husky love Husky oil and hate Echo. Perhaps Manufacturer's oil is the way to go ? Perhaps they know something we don't ?:monkey: Gary ? Hello Gary ? What do you think ? Hmmm ...... ? Maybe Gary makes oil for most of the Chainsaw manufacturer's and won't divulge the real truth !:monkey:

My husky dealer doesn't stock the XP oil only the husky low smoke oil , I got my 346xp there and he suggested I use the low smoke oil , The low smoke has a jasco FD rating and doesnt say that its a synthetic , I don't think it is but the XP is a synthetic blend . Would I be better off trying to find the XP oil for the NE 346 XP ?? More protection for hi RPM'S ??

Renco Ace hardware in Bloomsburg has the XP synthetic...where did you get your 346xp from ,All Occasions in Berwick?

I've been using Amsoil Saber for countless years. More recently I've been using Mobil 2T every other time I mix fuel... but I'm down to my last case of 2T. I've never had a single issue with either oil. Hell, I've even been running a few of the old 2 strokes (trimmer and blower) in the landscaping business for many years at 80:1-100:1 with the Amsoil. With a boatload of hours on both, they still run great and have good compression.

I'm sure Husky and Stihl oil is good stuff as well, but I have no reason to switch. For that matter, running WM oil would probably yield satisfactory results for a lot less money since modern oils are so much better...
