Myself and an older guy I know went out to my secret wood cutting area and went to town. The weather was perfect for cutting and splitting, and we took advantage of it. Here's a few pics of the action.

Blocking and noodling area, and blatant Stihl abuse. There was a nedium sized white oak log between the huge white and red oaks.

A little extra muscle never hurt anybody, or is it cheating?

Loggers lunch. I'm in the orange shirt.

Saw lineup in the monster oak log

Me posing on top of the red maple butt log with the 395. This log is truly massive, the butt is over 5 feet across, and I am 6'3"

First of two loads, this one nearly maxed out the 3500# trailer axle. Th heavy duty hand cart is essential for moving these big rounds. It has a 1000# capacity and is about $60 from Northern.

That was my day, had a great time in the nice weather, and have about 10 more loads there waiting to be cut.

Looks like you had fun. Do you wear any PPE when you cut? Helmet, ear protection, face shield, shirt, gloves, chaps, boots, etc?

Nah, not really, I have a set of earmuffs and I should invest in a helmet and set of chaps. I do wear gloves though. I have been known to cut in shorts, T-shirt and street shoes with no hearing protection with an old Super XL. I like danger.

AOD,

Nice pics, and one heck of a nice day after the long winter!

I cut about a Cord today as well, and it was so nice out I hated to quit.
The sap is coming up fast around here.

Hows come ya loaded the little trailer with whole rounds instead of noodling 'em into chunks that wont maim anyone lifting them??

One other interesting thing I noticed. One of them saws in the tree all lined up purty like? It seems to have some sort of "Rash" and ya might want to put some cream on it. LOL!!!

Stay safe!

Those logs have been on the ground there since July '07 when Old Allegan Road was widened. The "rash" on the big white oak is apparently from the claw of a harvester used to fell it, there is a huge cut kerf at the butt of that log from something massive. I had thought harvesters couldn't handle timber that size.

I found it's often easier to roll the rounder ones on the trailer. We should have noodled a few of them, one was at least 400 pounds. They are now at my wood hiding place known as "Allegan county deep cover" waiting for my buddy's Splitfire.

The 70E was a blast to run, as was the 460.

On a hot day fogged over safety glasses can be a real hazard too.

Agreed. But, try a different pair of glasses, or anti-fog spray. Oakley sunglasses are impact rated. Mine don't fog easily because they fit me right.

Not trying to preach. I never use more than leather palmed gloves, steel toes, glasses, and the occasional pair of ear plugs. I do really feel that glasses are the most important of all though.

I wear prescription glasses. Are the Oakleys worth the extra coin as prescription safety glasses? My regular safety glasses are around $200 a pop for lexan lenses, steel frame, and side shields. Oakleys are around $500,

Geeze, almost as much for a pair of Oakleys as an MS361.

I've been wearing Oakley sunglasses for about 12 years. Tough to beat for comfort. Can't speak for the prescription Oakley's though. I wear contacts.

The house is my grandmothers, and the other building is her garage. It's not far off the road, the only reason wood scrounges have not gone after these logs is simply their size.

Nice to see the 70e in with those saws. Did you use it much in the big wood?

Thats my buddy Dave's 70E. I ran it a little bit, it's a nice strong older Jred. He cuts a lot of the medium sized stuff up to about 28".
