My sister in law texted my wife tonight and ask if her boyfriend could borrow a saw...So my wife walks in and says, "you are going to be mad, but can Nick borrow a saw"...Of course I said NO, then the war started...Not really a war, but the, I don't understand the whole thing w/ you and your saws...The worst part is I had a nice little echo that I tried to sell him, but he just didn't have the cash, b/c he assumes he can borrow one, NOT...I normally have a loaner saw but just don't have anything running right now to let him use, sold them all...What to do, what to do?...Well I guess it is off to the garage to get a little Super XL 2 that is pumping oil into the crank case running so I can keep the peace...

This is why you need a couple loaner saws, cheap, newer ones with chainbrakes, something that won't break your heart if they tear it up (ask Plantbiologist)

I feel your pain

Under normal circumstances, my answer is "No" to loaner saws.

In actual fact it is more of a case of "who" it is, and "what" they are doing.
If I feel that they can run it without damage... then "maybe". If some schmuck insisted that I loan a "saw" I have the perfect "loaner" a 38 pound Remington XL5. Perhaps I need to obtain something that is worthless and bomb proof. Put a well worn semi chisel chain on it

I almost used his username in the title...

I try to keep a loaner saw, but lately everybody needs a cheap saw for around the house or just cleaning up the yard...

"I cannot loan a saw because of the increasing stringent liability laws, but I can sell you one if you sign this waiver".

That is the problem...I don't even have anything to sell except this Homie that the fluids are draining out of right now...

The duckbill valve fell out so it should be an easy fix...I was hoping that is what it was and sure enough the minute I flipped it it fell out in the pan...

I would loan out my SXL but theres no chain brake and the kill switch doesn't work, so I don't like anyone other than myself using it. The Homelite Timberman is my loaner of choice, it still has safety chain on it, it's light enough for most folks to handle and gets most loaner jobs done. I always fill stuff up when I loan it out, if they run it out of gas they need to come to me for more, sometimes I'll even send gas along with in a half empty can, I don't like it when they say, "Oh, I've got gas for it" No. You use the fuel that I tell you to use and none else!

take 2 good saws and help him finish what ever he's doing. That way nothing get's gassed and no one gets hurt. If you can't make some time for family then move further away from them...

SIL's Boyfriend isn't really family!

Anyway, is he a total TARD?? Loser?? does he ever use tools??? If it were me, I'd say no.

I let my good friend borrow my roto tiller last week.......lets just say that a new motor is $496 and guess who is footing the bill.

Just as well be...

He pours concrete and is not that bad of a guy, I just don't like letting my saws float around...Don't know where or what he is doing so it is a NO on my good saws...Hopefully I can get this little Homie up and running...

Under normal circumstances I'd say no. But these aren't normal circumstances what with your Mrs. being involved, so in this case, if it were me I'd ask her, What part of NO don't you understand?

You may be sleeping on the couch tonight, but you've got to have priorities.

you could always remind the Mrs. that if the saw is broken by the SIL's Boyfriend, that you'll be forced to buy another to replace it...

:clap::clap::clap::clap:I have a loaner saw again...Well at least until I sell this one and get one that is a little more user friendly...Got the little Super 2 back to running and oiling...Went to sharpen the chain and this little bugger has square ground on it :dunno: so I just touched it up w/ a flat file and hopefully can put it in a piece of wood before church...

:givebeer:

A friend left a voice mail last week..
"Rick, can we borrow a chainsaw. We need some firewood cut...."
I had lunch with Kristi and Luigi a few days later and told them they can't borrow a saw, but they can borrow me with the saw.
Luigi is relieved too. "I've never used one..."

In this instance, problem solved.

There is a really good reason that this person did not come to you and ask a direct question. He knew the answer would be no. Instead he uses guile and family leverage to get something he has no right to.

Two answers I see here.

One. Loan yourself with the saw. As bad as you feel now it is nothing to how bad you would feel if he cuts an arm or leg off with one of your saws.

Two. Say no. I dont lend tools myself. If someone mans up and asks I either help or I dont but I dont lend tools.

Personally I would go with option two. You offered him a saw to buy at a good price and he declined. So let him hire a saw from a dealer.

When he comes and picks it up have the Mall ready for him that there should curb his enthusiasm!!!! OR turn the carb screws in, to lightly seated and he can pull his guts out until he says :censored: it and gives you your saw back. Then techniquly your safe you loaned him a saw but he couldn't get it started thats not your fault:) Or he can do what you did and BUY HIS OWN:clap:

Personally, I wouldn't do that, somehow it'd come back that you can't maintain your stuff, and tried lending him junk.
