I got a third 10-10A running yesterday. . . Them's nice little saws. The one for my Pastor's wife wore a 20" bar, and I square filed it. . . I think my pastor was waaay more excited to run it than she was. LOL

They sure do cut strong for a 54cc saw!

The last one I finished last night wouldn't idle. . . I replaced the fuel line, and it still didn't work. . . Only when primed with fuel down the carb throat. I tore the carb down, and it was full of varnish.

I cleaned it all out, and reassembled the carb. . . She fired right up. I put an 18" hard nose on her, and a loop of Stihl chain. I think I'll square file it up, and go rip up some wood. :clap:
 
10-10's sure must have been a milestone when they came out! Sure a good cutting platform. :clap:

Man, i'm gonna have to learn how to square file. I've got a loop of CK for the 385, but haven't ran it yet.

Forbid me for taking the record of asking a question on every single darn post, but how does square chisel act when limbing? That's 70% of my cutting it seems. :laugh:

It works fine when limbing, you just need to keep your rpm's up. . . Don't be too reserved on the throttle--get in, and get'r done.

If I had a video camera, I'd make some "How to" video's for YouTube. . . Once you understand the angles, it's really not that difficult. I'm not the best free-hand square guy out there, but I make a sharp tooth. That 10-10 chain for the pastor's wife was back to the witness marks, with depth gauges set at about .045". . . Not grabby at all, and I was pulling out 2"+ chips in Fir and Pine.

It must be pretty shaky cutting, it sounds like. This Stihl 63PM that i'm trying out is sure a lot more shaky than the 91VG that was on it. Must be lower-profile rakers or something.

Sounds like i'll have to do some more searching when the time comes. Maybe buy another 72CK loop to have one for a pattern when I start filing. The goofy file is another thing that I don't comprehend. But that's another thread......

Not shaky at all, square cut's smooth as melted chocolate. . . It's just very sharp, like a knife. LOL

Goofy is like a hybrid of square file and round. . .

I mixed my first batch of 32:1 this weekend when I started up the 82cc Mac for the first time. I had been making different mixes, 50:1 in the Husky and Stihl, 40:1 in the Macs, and now 32:1 in the one Mac. Shoot, after reading the back of the bottles, finding a bottle that shows a table of different ratios, running calculators, and figuring out different measurements for different sized containers, i've about had it.

In Art Martin's famous thread here, he mentioned in one post mixing up his own bar oil. One of the ingredients was STP.

That cup looks handy, I wish they would show a closer picture of the increments though. Just to get an idea how it works. Read the FAQ's, it's too bad they recommended 50:1 for the PM605, believe it's a 40:1 model.

I'll have to read that whole Art Martin thread over again, then. It's funny, the head gets jammed with info that you want to learn at the time, and then you skim over the rest. :laugh:

Wonder if the 600-series Macs would be able to burp that stuff out or not.

I wonder what he mixed it with. Does ATF sound familiar?
 
I can send you the IPL that someone sent me (the cover page has been floating around) and it will help answer any questions as to the differences between the saws. I think everything is the same between the saws except for the differences already mentioned. Give me your email if you want the IPL.

Also look for the threads I have started and posted in that have to do with the 33B, etc.(there aren't many). I have received info on carb tuning, etc. from others that is invaluable!

had a customer today drop off a poulan trimmer said it wont start so i think i am going to do a carb replacement

yes its a warranty job first one i had all year
