I know that this horse had all ready been beat on this site, however. What are some opinions on peoples favorite brand of bars for speed, longevity, etc. Now what about favorite chains that forgives best for being run into the dirt, stays sharp the longest, cuts soft and hard wood etc. As most can tell by the questions i am new to the "good" chainsaw world so please be patient. Thanks

Here I thought I'd stumbled on a thread that would ID all the best taverns across America, Canada, the UK and Australia.

Sigh. :givebeer:

GB bars. Stihl RM/RMC. Clean as a whistle or filthy from skidding in the mud and snow, the advantages are there.

Carlton/Bailys SC ain't far behind the RM and costs half as much...

I gotta start looking at Bars seeing as how GB is now Chineese.
Maybe I'll find something I like better.

Stay safe!

Oregon bars are everywhere, but not so good.

GB bars are pretty good, but as Dingeryote says, they will need to be closely examined as the chinese stock takes over.

Carlton bars are OK, but I think they bear watching as there are a bunch of different kinds out there...now that they are a Blount company, I imagine that Carlton will be a Windsor or Oregon depending. Carlton will just be a name to satisfy the consumer that still looks for that name.

I haven't ever used a Windsor sprocket nose.

I like the Tilton/Total/Jonsered/Tsumura bars (some Jonsered bars are Oregons, some Carltons)...they're very hard and durable. Not all dealers keep them around, and if they have to special order it will be spendy.

Stihl bars are hard to beat for overall value, there are better bars and there are cheaper bars but I'd say Stihl gives you the best bang for the buck overall.

My favorite bars are probably the Sugiharas, very durable, light, and at a fair price. If only the distributor didn't cut his dealers throats they would probably reach household name status.

My favorite place in college, it is a sh*thole with aspersions of someday being a dive bar. My old boss Rob waiting for the beer truck.

Hey!!!

You get you tail out in the woods.
You can't kill deer sitting at the computer!
We can worry about bars when deer season is over.

All my big saws wear either Oregon or Windsor.

Small saws are a mix, many wearing Stihl bars. A couple of GB bars and three or four Carlton bars.

Overall I like the Windsor bars. Can't really say they are better than the Oregon bars because they both last a long time.

Are you 100% sure about that? Tom Beerens was on a stand at a Chinese show (in China) promoting his new business associations. Email below from somebody I know that was there...

Still in China.
Was at the big show up here and went past the stand of the factory GB has signed the deal with.
Suprise, suprise Tom Beerens was actually on the stand working with the Chinese people.
They even had all the GB bars (Titanium included) and saw chain displayed on the stand (with GB artwork and and packaging).
I got another guy I know to grab the catalogues for the factory. I'll send them to you when I get back.
Obviously I couldn't get catalogues myself as Tom wouldn't let me walk on the stand.

Maybe just harvester bars are being made in Victoria for now? That was the last thing I heard. I've had all sorts of damning info sent to me regarding GB/China relations and the info I have was put out by GB itself.

I mostly have Oregon stuff. Never had a problem with them. Never tried an Oregon Pro, suppsoed to be better?? I have a 36" Oregon Reduced weight. Stihl ES are nice seem to be fairly durable. I've used Sandvik, they seem to be nice, didn't have one for long though. I've had GB, their nice too. Windsor is fairly good. So all in all I've never had a problem with any bar I've used, I keep them well dressed though.
