Dingeryote, when you sweat. You lose alot of a water and minerals. Gatorade is loaded with electrolytes, which is the basic components of sweat(sodium, potassium, chloride). When thinned down with water replaces all that you lost via sweating. I can not stand full strength gatorade anymore! It is to freaking sweet!

Try this stuff; http://www.hillbillyhousewife.com/switchel.htm other wise known as haymakers punch. It is loaded with electrolytes and is very olde timey! It is the gatorade for us redneck folks!

I went to that link to check it out..
if you think gatorade is to sweet how can you drink THAT stuff !!!
it is mostly SUGAR !!

and absoulutelly NO electrolytes at ALL..
have you not been paying attention ?? elecrolytes = SALT.
for those that want a down and dirty quick and easy explanation of electrolytes,,,the cells in the body have nerve endings, the contacts like "points" work off electricity, these are called 'synapses" (sp) as we all know salt water (electrolyte ) is more conductive than plain old water ..
so when low on water or to low on salt (electrolyte) this arcing of the points dont work so good resulting in failure of the system..
the other need for salt is it allows easier passage of water between cells walls making distribution of liquid possible to stressed out tissue easier..
yeh, failed on the easy simple explination didnt i ? :)
ok !! theres a reason animals go for salt licks !!! so take it from nature !!

Correct to a point regarding the cells in the body however...

Acetylcholine is the chemical responsible for electrical signals to be passed between the axons and dendrites (gap is known as the synapse) in nerve cells. Acetylcholinesterase is the chemical released to stop the nerve signal (like a switch). Anticholinesterase insecticides (plus human nerve agents like Sarin, Tabun, Soman etc) work by stopping Acetylcholinesterase so the Acetylcholine isn't neutralised, the nerve impulses don't stop, which ends up killing or severely maiming whatever has sucked the poison in.
Acetylcholine only contains Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, and Oxygen - none of which are salts.
Only reason I remember this is because I have worked a lot with Entomology over the years and the way insecticides work on insects (or more to the point, don't work in some cases!).

P.S. I did have to look up the composition of Acetylcholine :)

Wow. Anybody who thinks the knowledge of the guys here on AS is limited to saws is sorely mistaken. Feel better today. Stilll weak and was a real test installing and pulling 72" coke machines. I never expected 4 pages about it.
About salt...back when my Dad played football in the 70's they were given salt tablets!

I forgot to mention use honey and skip the sugar! Apple cider vinegar is loaded with potassium aka natural electrolyte! Molasses is a source of calcium, magnesium, potassium aka electrolytes. Ginger has quite a bit of potassium. If you look into the ingredients for that recipe. You'll find out it is good for you and a natural gatorade type drink. It is just over 200 years old!

Like I said, olde timey redneck gatorade!

Apple cider vinegar is some amazing stuff. First heard about it after reading a stallone interview in Muscle and fitness. He swore by it to relieve his acid reflux (which I suffer from as well) Works better than iny pill i ever tried.

Tell me about it! Every time I got sick as a kid, ole mama gave me a dose of apple cider vinegar! LOL

I really like my apple vinegar mixed 1 to 3 with good olive oil and some lemon zest plus a wee bit of salt and fresh ground black pepper! Great on just about anything! Heck I am foodie! LOL

Another scorcher here today. After reading this thread last night, I made sure to drink more than usual. I always drink quite a bit of Gatorade and water.
Today I prolly drank 12 bottle waters. Also 4-5 Gatorades. Felt better today.

You guys ever drank Fiji water? It comes in a square bottle. Man that is the best water I have ever had!!! It has magic in it or something.

Wow, that's alot of Fosters Lager!
Cheers,
John

Fosters??? Funny thing is that the world's population think that's our premium beer. It's crap, even Aussies won't drink the garbage and we'll drink damn near anything with alcohol in it :)

I think there's a Crocodile Dundea stigma attached to drinking Foster's, that why it's such a big international seller. I drink Fosters, therefore I am! Lol

You can always send me a mickey of moonshine stuffed into a hollow loaf of bread addressed to: John Lambert Box 4 Atlin B.C. V0W 1A0 Canada.
Thanks in advance,

Is that a prison address and would you like 7/32" or goofy files baked into that loaf?
