Man, that saw sounds awesome! (til the carb issue kicks in, then it sounds kinda like a sick :cow:) I will have one of those someday, and will reverse engineer it. Make my own new parts, and build a brand new BP1. But I got a long ways and lots of money to go before I can do that...

I set mine with the metering lever flush with the carburetor housing, seemed to be a good place with the welch plugs in place! Try setting it a bit richer on the H jet as it may just be a little thirsty when it's pulling hard.

Sherwood (Discount Marine) has NOS fuel pump diaphragms and Bob Johnson has the metering diaphragms, I ended up using two of the metering diaphragms, one in the normal position for the metering lever and one in place of the actuator diaphram. Seemed to work for me.

If the weather will cooperate next weekend we'll have to see if Mweba has some sticks to cut as he has the video mojo all down. My son Josh also has a new (to him) Jonsered 2188 and the other son Jeff has the rebuilt Montgomery Wards branded 600 Series McCulloch to try.

My wife said she'd shoot some video if she could find a blank tape...

I'm down with that! I have some NOS Beta here if you need it Mark!?

I think it's lean as well, I started with the H screw out 1 turn, the saw completey fell on it's face. It was set at 1 1/16-1/8 turns in the vid. a little more might do the trick.
If I have to go more than 1 1/4 , I might have an air leak or carb obstruction to deal with.

Way to go Mark ! You should be proud of the work you did to that.
Quite a nice piece to add to your collection.

Great job. I hope to run across one one day so you'll have a spare.

Your full circle cutting style makes me a little nervous - that BP-1 might just rip those chaps off you, chew them up and spit them out. Ron

We had a lot of fun packed in to a short time this afternoon. In addition to finally getting the BP-1 out, I did a little side by side testing of the SP125's, one with the stock Tillotson fixe jet carburetor and one with a modified SDC 18 (fully adjustable and slightly bigger venturi - .750" vs .687" for the stock Tillotson) - but that will be in the McCulloch Chain Saw thread.

Here are some photo's of several of us running the BP-1 today.

First up, Mitch (Mweba)

I showed Jeff from this angle so you can see that the standard large McCulloch spike mounts right up to this saw.

I can send a copy in a box later
Thanks Bill!

Bill, I was not thinking when I sent you the starter rope guide, I need to send you the 'guide cup' thats fits in the top of the handle. That's the part that will cut the starter cord when worn.
I'll get one in the mail Mon.
Mark, If you need one also let me know.
Jim
