I think I am going to switch to HP ultra.

LOL! No all stock. I run chevron super, and my saw shop said chevron is recommended first. They are told by Echo,Stihl, and husky tech's at the classe's. When I use'd to be into dirt bike's it was 32-1 mix. We switche'd to 50-1 synthetic. It was almost smokelees, and clean.

found synthetci was the key!:msp_thumbsup:[/QUOTE]

I just purchased a pack of synthetic, myself, Norm. Are you running it in your sweet 2101xp?
A friend suggested a 40:1 mix with the ultra synthetic.. and I'm tempted to try that richer concoction

Joe, gonna mix my first can on Monday. I will run it in all of em, and the 2101 for sure:msp_thumbup:Funny at first being so partial to mu 660, but so much a husky lover as well. I had no experience with the 2101 until I got mine. I thought I would compare,it to the 660, and was afraid to be dissapointed. I figure'd it would be a backup. Wrong! it is a primary I have use'd it more than the 660 lately. My 660 just went down need's a carb kit, probably get it done monday. I'm lucky to have to big saw's got into a big hunk of madrone the other day, and had to rip a few section's.:msp_thumbup:

Right on, it's nice to have some muscle for those big logs, hey?

From what I understand, Ultra was designed due to carbon problems with the 4-mix engine, perhaps even the BR600 itself.

My 4mix kombi seems to like ultra better. The throttle on it has always seemed touchy to me. Like it always wanted to go from zero to half throttle, and it wouldnt seem to let you choose quarter throttle. Sort of all or nothing. But with ultra, it seems to have slightly smoother throttle response. Could be my imagination, but i don't think so. As for carbon, i usually splash an ounce or 2 of mmo in every 1 gallon batch of 2 stroke i mix. Carbon hasn't been an issue whatsoever.

Thought I would put up this pic again. It caused a stir a while back. This is an image of the cylinder from my 660 after six tanks of Amoco Ultimate mixed with Stihl HP Ultra @ 50:1. An additional 1oz/gal of Klotz Super Techniplate was added. The mix ratio ends up @ 36:1. As you can see this combo runs very clean.

Here is some message that someone sent me on ebay regarding a saw I was selling. "you do realize that klotz 50-1 oil is rated for a max of 10,000 rpm, the 353 turns 13K. Have you checked the piston for scoring? And "I'm not saying anything about cheap oil. Klotz states the max rpm for there oil is 10k, they've designed their oil and that the max rpm they recommend. I can see if you have a relatively big 75cc and up I would say the saw will rarely see 10k+. A light limbing saw like a 353 will be constantly be over 10k limbing and the occasional felling and bucking of medium trees. It's medium duty saw, and the husky 353 cylinder coating is marginal at best...the quality is know where as good as Mahle/346xp cylinder. Klotz oil is a very good oil but it really isn't designed for chainsaws, period. Use a proper oil like synthetic stihl ultra.

I have used klotz oil in almost everything that I own with great results. If im right or wrong, why would someone even take the time to argue about oil on ebay for something that im selling! Unreal!!

Both!

I run a mixture of HP Ultra @ 50:1 with 1oz/gal. Klotz Super Techniplate. Gotta have my Castor!!!

You can get straight castor from Klotz. Might save some money. No need to mix in another good synthetic oil that's got a bit of castor in it (Super Techniplate) with a good synthetic (Ultra) when you can just mix some castor with the ultra. If it's working for you as-is (protection/cost/etc) however, then no need to change.........

Right from the Klotz website.

Super TechniPlate®

Yep. That ebay jackass is out of his tree. I usually run Redline synthetic. I can get it locally for far less money than Stihl Ultra. Fantastic oil. Been running it in various 2-strokes for over 20 years. Sometimes I'll run a bit of castor in it (mostly fer the smell.........nostalga you know). I can't find Klotz locally here. The 40-Fuel I've ran has Klotz synthetic in it from what I've read. Seems to work well. I've also added a smidge of castor to it (.2 oz to a quart can of 40-Fuel.....which gives me a 32/1 total gas/oil mix).

I have also ran the Super Techniplate with great results. Both the Klotz and the Redline have never let me down, and don't leave a bunch of carbon behind. I've seen piston scoring from exhaust carbon deposits on several old saws I've picked up over the years. Thick fuel mixtures using cheap dino oil is my guess...

I know about the BeNol, but my Klotz hookup keeps Super Techniplate on the shelf. He sells it to me at cost...;)

How much does the stihl ultra go for now? I haven't bought any since last winter. I had a big supply of it and then have been running motul and klotz. I'm almost out of klotz now so I'm trying to figure out if it's cheaper than ultra to buy more of it. The motul was $7 for a pint of it so over a $1 a gallon. Klotz was $1.30 a gallon.

I am EXTREMELY jealous that you have a stocking Klotz dealer, especially one that sells to you at cost. I'll bet he could get you some BeNol for you in his next order....

OLDTIMER, been along time since I use'd Amsoil, back when I ran dirt bike's it was Amsoil or Redline, but so many choice's now. I'm sure there are many good one's.

Amsoil Saber 2.6oz, Klotz Super Techniplate .5 oz. Final around 42:1
With Klotz having twice the flashpoint as Ultra my opinion is that more oil remains in the engine constantly under heat and stress for better protection, especially the bearings.
Got some pretty strong saws, never lost an engine yet.
Used Ultra and didn't care for the smell. Seems like good oil however.
