I may have to think that one over...If I had other uses for it or more gas tanks...

P62 jug alteration

Can the skirt on a P62 jug be removed to fit a P60 or P50? And if so, what would be the procedure? I'm trying to revive two old saws. So far, all I have found are kits for P62's (cylinder, piston, rings, flywheel, electronic ignition, base gasket).
 
I have used a lot of Devcon Liquid Aluminum F2-230-10710 and it would do a great job of sealing that plate in place. I have not used the putty mentioned so I cannot recommend that. All Devcon materials are industrial strength and do a superior job for their intended purposes.
That tank must be squeaky clean and the parts to be joined must be bare metal to metal contact.

There is no need to remove the skirt. The newest P62 skirted jug will fit on the oldest P50. It has been mentioned earlier in the thread that it will not fit, but that is not the case, I've done it several times. The kit you mention (no modding required) will be all you need to make your P50 a 98cc. :rock:
 
I received a Pioneer P62 today that was not in the condition it was said to be in. Anyone know if the rubber bottom half of the air box is available? How about clutch drums?

There are two types of air boxes. Yours should have the round inlet around the carb with a hose clamp. The other is square. The round type along with the clutch drum are still available. Pull up a Poulan 655 ipl for part numbers. You can get both through Baileys.... but cheaper about anywhere else. :msp_wink:

Thanks for the info. I do have the round one. I'll check out Baileys. I didn't see either on eBay.

I have a used clutch drum if your interested. It was used with the non-metal type clutch shoes.

Does the clutch on this P62 have RH or LH threads? I know the jam nut is RH, but the clutch won't come off. I thought maybe the threads were slightly larger and LH on the clutch itself.

It should be RH threads, but it might be stuck on the spline. You might need to give it a little whack to bust it off the spline.

Thanks, You have made my day!!! I failed to mention in my post the kit was a Pioneer/Partner #476294, with cylinder #433223 from Rottmans. They have a special note stating the skirted cylinder will not fit the Pioneer models. I was ready to give up. Thanks again, Art
 
I worked today on the P60 and P62 that I just got. Both carbs went in the ultrasonic cleaner. The P60 got new fuel lines. The P62 got a new oil line. The both run great. The only flaw that I know of on the P62 is a chip in the clutch cover near the upper spike bolt. It's very small and not an issue at all. The P60 has no issues at all. I borrowed the clutch drum and rubber carb boot/filter box from the P60 in order to run the P62.

Never mind the chain grabbing on the P62. I dressed the bar rails before putting it on the P60 and it totally cleared up.

I'm selling one of these. Which would you keep? I intended to keep the P62, but the P60 is super nice cosmetically. I do like the black on the P62, instead of green, as well as the dual spikes. They both run great.
