The beech that I have is not as light as this beech. I will take some pictures tomorrow and load them. Once I load them would you mind letting me know if it is fact beech or are there different species of beech.

im far from an expert tree identifier, but ill try my best
with all the guys and knowledge here im sure you wont have a problem getting an I.D

I'm sorry I haven't been able to post any more pics. The stuff I brought home is already in wood heaven and with my saw being in 100 pieces and waiting on a piston and cylinder I haven't been back out to fetch anymore of it for some more pics.
The ash is out of the equation, settled and done.
Still trying to ID the one that is titled elm in the pic. I thought red elm just because it was laying there with a bunch of other elms all looking the same. The horizontal flecks in the wood grain threw me off as well as the smell and the awesome straight grain. It could be maple that somehow didn't rot. Is Maple prone to standing or laying barkless for such a long time that it is light and burnable right away? I don't have much experience cutting maple up until now but from what I see it can "go" pretty fast.
I'll be back out this weekend hopefully and bring some more home. I also need to check out some trees that might be Locust.
Thanks for the help!

I have seen Red Elm that looked like your first pics. It split reasonably well and had a similar grain. It was only the standing deads in Michigan though... And only the knot free portions of the trunk. It had lost it's bark, yet was still solid... That makes me lean toward Red Elm as opposed to Maple...
The Ash tree you scored in the latter pics was a dandy... Rot had not set it yet... Don't leave it out there too long...

I am not sure of this wood. But I hope someone can help. There are only two pieces of wood but four pictures the first two pics or one wood and the last two are the second piece of wood
