Ebay weirdness

I believe ebay to be flawed in this regard:

How can a buyer who pays on time, be anything but 100 %, and why do they have to wait for the seller to add feedback? It should be automatic.

Ebay should at the minimum track total purchases by a seller, which would be a good indication of credibleness. In my opinion.

The buyer does not have to wait for the seller to leave feedback, and a seller can only leave positive feedback. Nothing else.

Also sellers are not allowed to charges extra for insurance, and some sellers that say things like, if you do not buy insurance I am not responsible... That does not apply anymore.

eBay makes the rules, not the sellers.

As for feedback, I never leave anything but positive. I do not see how any good can come out of negative.

Yes, that is the main flaw with e-bays feedback system, as a seller, you are automatically in the wrong, no matter what.
I sold a fuel line and filter last year, guy says it is defective, I tell him to send it back, with the envelope. He used a razorknife to open
the envelope, and cut the end off of the fuel line, and was dumb enough to send both pieces and both pieces of the envelope as well.
E-bay says tough, send him a new one, or else we will take the money out of your paypal, and refund him, and he will likely give you a
negative.

As a seller, you can only leave a positive feedback. How is that even remotely fair?

The buttholes always side with the buyers because theyre the ones sending in all the cash. It's a load of crap IMO. Ebay needs some real competition. I hope one day they get some. If they continue to piss offf all the sellers then they might just go out of business too.

Well as a buyer on Ebay I do pay attention to the feedback and read all the ones for the last 12 months and it is not always the crappy buyer that gets the advantage there is also alot of crappy sellers also that need to to have their crooked but kicked.

Yea it is the buyers that are sending in all the cash and it is the sellers that are receiving that cash. They not going any where.

Thing I dont understand is in ebay sellers who dont leave feedback until after I as the buyer has left feedback. I feel if I have sent the money the seller should automatically give a positive feedback. Am I way off?

Hoss, I sell saws on eBay too and often find I sell to guys who have no knowledge of eBay and have used their wives'/daughters'/girlfriends' accounts to get a 'bargain' saw. Mostly things go OK and communication proceeds through the female but sometimes you just get nothing, like you describe.

It sure is a weird feeling and I don't know weather it is because of a total lack of online know-how by the buyer or a case of cold feet after the excitement of the bidding has worn off. If you contact eBay they will refund your selling fees because of non payment.

eBay is OK but you have to expect you will deal with a fair proportion of kooks.

Al.

I would much rather sell a chainsaw to someone who knows how to run one than a complete novice.

There's no good answer to that...everybody does it differently. I give feedback when selling as soon as I get the money, when buying I give it when I get the merchandise and it's good. I seem to be in a minority though, some people never give feedback, I guess it's too much trouble for them.

Your situation sounds strange. They used to provide you with the telephone number of a buyer if there was an issue and you can call and straighten things out; I don't know whether they do that anymore.

I stopped selling on eBay because of all the BS. Lots of whining buyers who are simply ignorant but are certain that they are right.

Had one guy who paid with PayPal and I shipped to his certified PayPal address. It was delivered, but he did not receive it because he had sold that house and moved 30 minutes away but did not change his address on PayPal. Instead of simply going and picking up the item or even giving me the name and/or number of the person who lived there now, he filed a complaint with PayPal, which gummed things up for me for a while. Based on his complete refusal to help me contact the person who lived where the item was delivered, I concluded he already had the product in his hands and was just trying to take my money.

Paypal ruled in my favor, but I haven't sold on eBay since. Just not worth it to me. I still buy there from time to time.

You can get scammed as a buyer as well....

You got lucky. I've done a lot of stuff on eBay and I've NEVER seen or heard of a case where eBay or PayPal sided with the seller.

I no longer sell on eBay, because the fees have gotten entirely too outrageous to sell, and PayPal fees aren't much better.

I too wish someone could come up with a way to have competition for eBay...if it were any physical business, the government would declare it a monopoly and force them to shut down.

As a buyer I have accidentally left feedback. I go into the "Leave Feedback" tab, where it brings up everything, and sometimes I end up leaving feedback for a item that I have not received.

That was my guess... I've accidentally done that once before.

It's probably because they do business on the internet..the gov't has been kinda hands off so far. I, too, wish there was someone to compete with ebay and paypal. Others have tried it and eventually ebay will completely price itself out of the market but for now it looks like we're stuck with them.

You are right. I always leave positive feedback right after a buyer pays. He has fulfilled his part of the bargain.

There are some sellers that want to hold feedback hostage. They brought on the new rules by eBay that sellers can now only leave positive feedback.

There are also some sellers that want to say if you do not buy insurance, I am not responsible.. They will eventully find out the hard way that is no longer allowed.

The seller has to get it to the buyer undamaged, and that is just plain common sense when you think about it.

A lot of people buy from ebay a long time before they start selling, this builds up their number of positives. When a buyer sees all these positives they think the seller is good. Some never check to see actually that the positives weren't from selling.

You would think that if they had been stuck by a bad seller as a buyer that they themselves would become better sellers.

It's not hard to be a good seller, just describe the merchandise accurately, put a reasonable shipping price on the product and start the bidding at something reasonable. It's hard for some people to be honest with their descriptions however.

Having said that, it really makes me nervous to put a saw on ebay that I think is worth maybe $100 and watch the bids go up over $150 or so even if I described it honestly. I know what things usually go for before I list and when someone overbids I feel like they may not be happy with their purchase. Maybe that makes up for some of the $75 saws that I got $25 for.

It came down to the simple fact that I shipped to the address provided to me by PayPal. eBay is so weighted in favor of the buyer that I really thought they would rule against me. This creates a situation where buyers can really abuse things. I am careful who I buy from and have not had any problems on that side.

Remember guys, all feedback weirdness aside he is still a non-paying buyer after 8 days. I'm just sayin.:confused2:

I am about done with eBay now, but I sold for about 10 years, and I had my share of non paying buyers. Most I never heard from again.

The only way that I cured the problem was that I put everything up at a Buy it Now price and required immediate payment.

I also found out that I could move more items through the system faster, with no more waiting for the auction to end.

I have sold some items 20 minutes after listing, and lots of them within 24 hours.

Always made me thing I priced it too cheap... but I got the price I asked, so what the heck.
