nmurph has posted his side of things in the thread the OP started...Chainsaw forum. The thread is locked again but nmurph was entitled to respond to tsmbrian's allegations.

I'd like to see more problems resolved like this.

I think a lot of the troubles on the saws {oem or aftermarket} is that they get distorted because it is hard to keep good control of them easily.

And some saw troubles are purely based on incompetence of the user! If you're too stoopid to understand thread pitch, should you run power tools?

And if your not extremely careful, bend or cause some other damage to the clip. I've killed so many OEM clips it's not funny, glad they went flying as I probably hurt it anyway. I like the ones with ears, much easier to get in without smashing..... and (knock on wood) have had ZERO returns on probably a hundred of saws. Even the dealer here complains of OEM clips and they have difficulty putting them in, he's done thousands of saws I'm sure!

Stihl makes a circlip installation tool. No flying clips. I distrust the clips with ears as I believe the added mass lends to the clip dislodging itself. You see nothing like that in OEM parts, and that kind of clip is never seen in a motorcycle top end.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I swear I've seen stihl clips with ears. I think some of the 026's had them if I'm not mistaken.

Yup! I've seen them too. Lots of huskies use the one eared clips. I personally like them better, a good pair of needle nose pliers and they are in without excessive bending, or flying or other BS.

Maybe one of the techs at a Stihl Shop can answer this question

I just rebuilt a 1990 026 and it didn't have ears on the clips and I don't think this saw was ever touched before after seeing what it looks like inside and also the 026 I did back in September/November early 90's saw that wasn't ran for many years; both the 026's im talking about were received from oringal owners of the saw

I haven't seen clips on 026 that I have worked on not saying they didn't but I haven't seen them

My late 80s 028 doesn't have them. My '94 044 doesn't have them. It is easier to strain an eared circlip than one without ears.
