One that I got rid of a little while back. 10-10s Pro Mac. Never cut with it but it sure ran good. I picked it up from a friend who picked it up from the scrap yard. I put in a new line, cleaned the carb, replaced the clutch needle bearing, and fixed the recoil. Could not ask for a better running saw really. Only thing that I did not care for it was how heavy the little bugger was.
Someday when I come across one for a decent price I wanna get another one. Better yet a Pro Mac 700 sounds even better :msp_biggrin:. I was at a auction where 10 Pro Mac 700s all sold for over 100 a piece.

That's about what the 700s are selling for on ebay.

They're not heavy .... they're sturdy!

My PM700 on the scale. Good power for the weight!!

anyone ever try wiring a worklight or something silly to the charging circuit on one of the electric start 10 series? sometimes i'm cutting firewood at dusk and a little light on the subject could be handy. i have a 10-10e without batteries and have been contemplating a little electronic modification like this. any advice or successes?

list of 10-10 models?

Hi Guys,

I'm enjoying this thread. I was wondering if anyone has compiled a list of 10-10 style saws as the variations are very confusing to me. I only have 1 mac at present. Circumstances have taken me down mostly the Homelite route. Although I let a very nice 380 slip through my fingers just before CAD kicked in.

Regards for the north

That is awesome Mark! Thanks! Quite an impressive list indeed! I wonder what the total production qty was of just the 54/57cc 10-10 run start-finish? Then add the PM700, PM55, PM60, and of course the SP80/81 and finally the PM800/805/850 and DE80? I wish we had access to production tooling for this series of saws! Wouldn't it be awesome to build new parts, then one could assemble a "kit" saw and maybe stay away from any regulations regarding "new" saw production, and these Awsome saws could live long and prosper! As it is they will be around for another 50 years!

Probably my fault, I did look at the AS site and post a few times while in Ho Chi Minh City and Phu My last month...

I did not see any chain saws anywhere, but do have a few guys on the lookout for one of the Remmingtons that may have been left behind.

Mark

So Mark we can blame the incoming rash of "McCurruck" 10-series copies on you eh? If you'd posted in the red saw thread we would expect to see some "Homerite" saws in the future......:D

I took the muffler off my PM700, as the outer diffuser plate, and reed fell off. I got the muff off, and was wondering if Mark, or Aaron or any other Mac Guru's can chime in on the exhaust reed, if it is really needed, what it does, and should I bother rebuilding the muffler with a new reed? Any good source on the exhaust gasket? or can I clean up and reuse the old one? It does not show any signs of blowing by the gasket. The piston/rings and Cylinder look very nice in this saw, for how rough it looks on the outside. I am pleased with what I am seeing. It ran great before, but after the outer plate and reed fell off it got REAL LOUD! So I decided to take it down to fix the exhaust.

As you've noticed, that reed really does make a noise difference with that muffler. Discount Marine, Bob Johnson, and ebay are all sources for the exhaust gasket. You can reuse it if it's in good shape. NOS muffler reeds are easy to find too.
