Hey this will crack some of you up. An old winegrape grower I know asked me to have a look at a dead old gum tree in his backyard. He wants me to fall it but miss his water meter.
I had a look yesterday after work and stuff me it will take out his fence by about 3-4m. Without high lift capability there is no possible way of falling it without hitting the fence or powerlines on the other side.
I said "No way Joe, it will smash your fence".
His response was "That's OK Matt, I'll just straighten the tin out afterwards. It's only small branches that will hit it".
This argument went back and forth a bit and he is adamant he wants me to drop it regardless of any damage to his corrugated iron fence. There is no way we can dismantle the fence as he made it himself and it's this welded frame. The poor old buggar hasn't got much money and actually wants the wood for his fireplace so I feel a bit sorry for him. He's 73 years old and his wife left him a few years ago because "she finally found out she was a lesbian" (no sh*t!).
I'm going to knock it over tomorrow for free and am getting a workmate of mine to come along and video it - should be funny. There is only one way it can go and will have to swing it off a cable or chains from his tractor. I'll pack a heap of wood or bricks around the water meter just in case it doesn't go where I want (fair bit of side lean and the hinge may not hang on).

mat you still have those climbing spikes?

a fat bastard like me would have to use a rented trailer mount EWP just to trim it up a bit first.

The following are extracts from translations into English found in Chinese travel brochures.

Getting There:
Our representative will make you wait at the airport. The bus to the hotel runs along the lake shore. Soon you will feel pleasure in passing water.
You will know that you are getting near the hotel, because you will go round the bend. The manager will await you in the entrance hall. He always tries to have intercourse with all new guests.

The hotel:
This is a family hotel, so children are very welcome. We of course are always pleased to accept adultery. Highly skilled nurses are available in the evenings to put down your children. Guests are invited to conjugate in the bar and expose themselves to others.
But please note that ladies are not allowed to have their babies in the bar. We organize social games, so no guest is ever left alone to play with himself.

The Restaurant:
Our menus have been carefully chosen to be ordinary and unexciting. At dinner, our quartet will circulate from table to table, and fiddle with you.

Your Room:

Every room has excellent facilities for your private parts. In winter, every room is on heat. Each room has a balcony offering views of outstanding obscenity. You will not be disturbed by traffic noise, since the road between the hotel and the lake is used only by pederasts.

Your bed has been made in accordance with local tradition. If you have any other ideas please ring for the chambermaid. Please take advantage of her. She will be very pleased to squash your shirts, blouses and underwear. If asked, she will also squeeze your trousers.

Above all:

When you leave us at the end of your holiday, you will have no hope. You will struggle to forget it."

Nah mate I sold those spikes a while back. I'd still like to get a few fliplines, a decent harness, and some more spikes as they'd be really handy for the odd job but then I have to come to the realisation that my aspirations are more than likely far outstripping my abilities as far as climbing goes :D

On a positive note I did drop this old bloke's tree, it did have some small branches hit the fence, but a Passionfruit vine he had growing along the fence saved the day by softening the blow and not one bit of damage was done. I have a video that I'll upload later.

oh dear got busted by plod going wee fast radardunnydoor coming otherway. i saw but tad too late. Twas ok as me had no tickets for over 25 years, i've been good lad. Togie says i just need to provide sexual favor to Mr Civic Compliance and no worries will git off. phew 280 bucks n 3 points saved but I used my life line now for some years.

Had a interesting day.A mate of mine and his neighbour, who live in town where cutting to supply a older couple in the street some wood for the winter to save them buying it.Dont need to bring a saw they said we have a new one each.
So i turn up to find a week old Husky 455 and a Stihl 291 that he picked up today.I no these saws wont interest you guys a lot,but my findings may a little :msp_biggrin: I used each one for probably two hours each and then had a good look over them.Being a long time Husky guy i have to say  Give me the Stihl anyday.Seemed to have much more then the claimed .2 kw in power advantage,a lot smoother in the AV,oiled better, was lighter and the husky filter should be ashamed of itself. To my surprise the Stihl has a cartrige style filter that did a great job.Neither of these guys will ever wear them out and didnt consider a pro saw as neither of them burn wood themselves. They just like to get out in the bush a couple of weekends a year and have some fun.Even for my use i would have a 291 tommorrow, not sure about the husky though :(

Hey don't judge the smaller Huskys the same as the larger ones. With the homeowner range of Huskys I'd go Stihl anyday too. The 029/MS290 etc get ragged on a lot here but I know a heap of guys that have abused the crap out of them since the mid-late 90's and they are still going strong.
I don't rate the Husky Rancher saws at all. The Husky 353's will crap all over them but the filters, sadly, are still garbage just like all Huskys.

Yeah mate i no the pro Huskys are a bloody good saw.It was just interesting to run these two lower grade saws side by side.I dont know what husky are thinking with there filters, even if everything else was equal i would get the Stihl for the filter.
Be carefull Matt,my Rancher55 has good hearing and may get upset with your comments :D although a gather you really mean the current crop of Ranchers.

Yeah Husky needs a kick in the goolies for their filters. It is the one thing I hate about them. In clean softwoods we all know they are great but in finer hardwood dust like we experience they are garbage. Stihl and even Dolmar have them well and truly covered. Actually even $200 Poulans have them covered with an oiled foam filter...
As far as the older Ranchers go they aren't too bad. Even though they are a pro build saw with seperate cylinder and crankcase I'd still go an 029 I reckon. Seen a few older Ranchers with issues but apart from carbys needing a rebuild the old 029's just keep going and going and going...

Perhaps, those saws were not ever tested out here in oz before being introduced into this market place. If they were tested, by who, some dealers employee, who cut up a 6x4 box trailer load of wood and thought he had a big day.

Well ladies, an easy answer........ Bunnings wharehouse.
power at an afordable price, with top brands like Macullock, Victor and Ozito for the weekend specalist sawyer. broooooom broom long Time.:msp_thumbsup:

Real Men need Real Power to get the job done. that's why Bunnings and others sell the almighty Poulan. What a power beast. Weight to power ratio equal to none. Lasts longer than a tank of fuel and but will not outlast that for ever sharp chain. like the Western Movies were the horses never tire and guns never run out of bullets, this saw will keep on looking the part.

Now you tell me Neil, I spent all day yesterday cutting half a 6x4 trailer load and I was buggered :(

I think I need to hit the gym more...

I think I need to hit the gym more...

Ah, here lieth the problem.

You're supposed to walk through the doors and enter the space young Rudi, not hit the outside wall. :D

Just been digging trenches for the last two hours with mattock, crow bar and fencing shovel to run a new drain from the grease trap to the soak away.

WTF someone would do that by hand when just down the road lives a man with a Dingo Digger and Ditch Witch, please let my stupid brain know ? :dizzy:

Now you tell me Neil, I spent all day yesterday cutting half a 6x4 trailer load and I was buggered :(

Or, have a look on the LHS of the saw Rudi, there's this handle that when you pull it fast a few times the saw makes this ring a ding ding/growly sound and the chain starts to spin really fast.

Cuts through wood a lot more quickly and makes life a lot easier than swinging the bugger from above your head manually :D

Ok, Ok, I'll go back outside and keep digging trenches.......

Rudi,,, you are meant to bring the trailer right up to the wood, that way you cut and throw, much easier than cut and carry then throw.
another handy hint from a novice doing things the hard way.

all day for half a 6x4 trailer????WTF were you doing.........................:D

Maybe it was a very hot day

Yeah get the dingo next time Rick, much easier... shovels are only for leaning on or so I was told.

Yeah I think thats my problem, not enough ringa ding ding noises coming from the saw.

It was "hard" wood

Good idea Neil, its really tough being an amateur sometimes :rolleyes2:

Truth be told I cut more wood, probably a few ute loads I would say. Here is some pre split wood I was cutting, my helper has been pretty handy with moving logs etc.

And the 346 in its natural state...

Yeah I often wonder mate. It's not only testing but where the testing is done. Every Husky saw I've owned has to have the filter oiled to stop finer stuff like Redgum going straight through it. Stihl had exactly the same issues before the HD2.
Ah what I'd give for a rainforest, no dust, and pine...

Lets move to Oregon Matt, they have nice wood and stuff.

The felt filter on the 346 has been going alright so far but I try to cut as much green stuff as possible. I leave the dirty jobs for the 261.
