I currently have the 562xp and previously had the early version of the 441. To be honest I really like the Stihl products from my 441 experience. The power, the mount of the chain, the on off switch is a much better design. Just roll with the thumb.

With the above said we need to take an honest look at cost:

562xp - $600
576xp - $760
390xp - $880

MS461 - $1,050
MS441 - $ 909

Apples to apples you are looking at a $300 premium for a Stihl saw over Husqvarna. $250 of this can be spent on a port job.

I really like the sound and feel of Stihl. Some of you may laugh because you have ran all of the saws mentioned. Is the $300 premium worth owning a Stihl?

Lastly: Some of you like the 390Xp. It appears to take around 5 pulls to get it started. Is this saw that popular? I hate pulling more than twice to start a saw.

Your thoughts???

576xp being replaced before 2014?

I have read that the 576xp is being replaced before year end. Is this true?

Where did you hear a 390 takes 5 pulls to start? If tuned correctly it will probably take 2-3 on choke and one or two more to start. That's about average for stihls and huskies. The 576 AT is a real nice saw with good power.

My thoughts?? If I was running a saw day in and day out, I would go with the one that feels better in my hands. Thats why I have had huskies for most of my saws. You said you prefer Stihl so stick with them. Now if you are going to run a big saw occasionally like most on here do, go with the cheapest one to get the job done. CJ

5 pulls is about right.......first thing Monday morning in the dead middle of winter after the saw hasn't been started since Friday.

A ported 390 is a very nice saw. You can also swap the bars between the 562 and 390. This can come in handy in a jam.

The prices you listed for the husqvarnas are below retail and the Stihls are retail prices. The Stihls can be bought under retail also

So, you have a Husky dealer that will sell below list, and a Stihl dealer that won't? Have you asked the Stihl dealer if they would come down? I'm pretty much in love with my MS441CM.

Stihl vs Husky

Most of you need to understand that suggested retail means nothing. Negotiated purchase price is all that really matters. Husky is an open market. Stihl is a closed market.

Stihl does not negotiate and they don't need to because you have to drive to the location to purchase the saw.

Husky on the other hand can be purchased anywhere in the United States. No rules.

The result is that my cost comparison is extremely accurate whether you would like to admit it or not.

I would purchase a Stihl over a Husky if they were around the same price.

If you're I n the PNW stihls are more in line with husky prices. Heck a 660r was $940 pho a few months back.

I'm pretty sure we can also buy Huskies here. ;) Oh, and we can also buy STIHL and STIHL products on line as well. But, they are trying to change that, too. I have to use a starter on my huskies - dragster style.

Paying a premium for Stihl over Husky seems upside down to me in general - but of course it depends on the exact models in question....

Maybe the one I'm getting will start on the first pull.;)

I believe the Husqvarna/stihl argument is the same as right/left handed argument. a guy who is right handed will say to the left handed guy "how do you do it" and the Husqvarna guy will say the same to the stihl guy or vise versa. only thing is the right/left handed guys don't have a choice what they choose. I always wonder how those stihl guys run those hunk of ####s. it's like when the power is there the handling isn't and when the handling is the power isn't. buy a husky and you'll get the best of both worlds. I got an 066 as payment for an outboard repair job and I sold that hunk of #### right away. thing was ported and had plenty of power but handled like a gut shot seagull compared to my 385. why pay more for less? :D
