I got a few 288's and prob enough parts to make 4 more
Theyre mean critters and can lay wood down fast, also make good bucking saws. Limbing,...ehhh, i find them a bit cumbersome in that dept. Not a fan of their handle configuration nor their mounts. Take an 044-046 anyday as far as that goes.
Ive found the spring mounts are better than the rubber, but just that, better and require replacement often
I do like 288's but they're fragile and dont like to be pulled on.
Flocked or HD hitop filters are a must, the nylon type allow crap into the carb after a full day of hard use.
Not knockin them, i do like them for certain aspects

Both my 385 and 288 balance great with a solid 28". The 36" Sugi light ain't too bad either. I am really big and strong tho

What length bar balances best on a 288? I'm thinking it needs a longer bar than is on it.

They'll balance well with a 28" and are slightly nose heavy with a 32".

Note, when running the large front spring the rubber AV mounts on the front of the tank are removed. There are also three options for rear mounts, soft rubber, hard rubber and a small spring.

Usually the standards came with large front spring and rubbers in the rear. The lite version came with no large spring, rubber fronts, springs on the upper rear and soft rubber on the lower rear.

On my personal 288 I have the large spring in front, and springs on all 4 rears and it doesn't vibrate much at all.

One thing about 288s is it does not have a throttle cable it has a arm. Mine was so worn when I got it it was not opening up but about 80%. Something for 288 owners to check. I had to add some material. Has anyone discussed the governed carb?

No please enlighten us

Would a 385 be equal with a 288? I run my 288 with 24in bar and it surprises ya

Just bought a 288, full wrap, high top, front spring rig off a bud. Things a damned beast. Glad to hear heavy vibrations, and dirt bike exhaust notes are the norm, I actually thought something was up with this saw because of it.
