had my hedge trimmer in for a service last week. choke wouldnt stay on full during starting and was hard to get onto full choke. and after that they told me they ran it up on their stihl diagnostics computer thingy mahjig. and it said all was great with it.
so i took my 441cm in there today for them to have another play with it also on the diagnostics. what a cool unit that is for them. its like a Tech 2 for a GM car/truck.
all plugged in it detects whether its in off on or choke position , and detect throttle position. there is a procedure for the operator to do thru so every thing gets checked.. even revving it to certain rpms. most likely checking throttle position against rpm to then adjust the carby as needed. ( help here bennie) at the end it spits out a report and log. its just like going to the mechanics with the car!
well my 441cm is fit and healthy.. see what it says after a porting job lol

a little info here..not much

Hey MCW/Matt:

I was running my 441 this afternoon and it stalled out on me. I thought that it sounded odd, so I pulled the muffler and the piston had transfer in it. The compression was down to 140. So I pulled the jug and it seems to be OK (has some transfer I can clean up), but the piston/rings are gone. My guess is the previous owner overheated it running it too lean, or the decomp is toast. Looking around, I do not see any Meteor pistons for the 441. I do not think they make them. I found one made by Kolben in Greece, from the same guy I get Caber rings from for $30. You have any experience with aftermarket 441 slugs?

Looking at the OEM 441 jug, it is not a Mahle. Its marked Stihl and Gilardoni. I never had a Gilardoni cylinder in a Stihl before. They have all been Mahle.

i maybe the only person in Australia with these :D:rock:
hate the ones we have here with the stupid yellow caps and the funnel that sits inside. especially for the bar oil. messy sh1t.

got 2 to make the shipping cost worth while.

Hi mate.
I have a single 441 AM kit here and to be honest I've never even tested one of these kits hence I have one here unused. I am very wary of selling kits I haven't tested and the 441 is one of those kits I'm unsure of.
Not sure on aftermarket pistons and I've already stolen the rings off of this one for a customer's 044.
If it's from the guy in Greece then it should be OK. Kolben seem to be OK from my experience so you should be fine. If something blows up I'll send you this kit - just buy some Caber rings and you're good to go.

Going to diagnose something fancy?
It is used for all mtronic and injection products but can be used for any thing really. With non mtronic I just select 'other Stihl product' I then get 2 options. One which when you hit skip, skips to a basic ignition test, pull over and start idle then stop and it also has a tacho function with memory too. For the info I have it says from 2000 on but I did my 066 the other day. 2nd option is punch a serial number in and it comes up with the model not sure how far back that works though. From there it gives more features being able to do a full from scratch tune up using it. Gives base settings to start with and step by step from there. I just used a serial number from a ms660 I sold the other day to try it with my 066. So will make a list of Serial numbers to have as references for models that didn't change or very little from the old 0xx to MSxxx versions like I did with the 066. Will try my 241 on it on the weekend

Cool stuff!

Husky combi can is still the best

yea your right, I still have maybe 4 or 5 of them from my falling days.
I still use one of them every work day.
I can still remember the days when we used 4 litre oil bottles with a piece of rope tied each end so you can carry them over your shoulder.

on mine

the oil side the thread keeps on slipping and the oil leaks out if it falls over for the money they cost i won't be getting another one

Yea that sometimes is a problem, I have a couple with the fuel stop taken out, they still work ok if not knocked over too much.
