I spent Saturday cutting firewood with my uncle. He just happens to have an MS290 bought brand new in 2010. He hasn't cut enough with it to wear the paint off the bar yet but seems happy with it.

About midway through the day his throttle and choke linkage got bound up. I pulled the air filter cover and found that the choke lever switch had popped out of the clip that holds it in place. I snapped it back in but didn't solve his issues. It looks like a little metal spring that must be the ignition ground for the kill switch had backed out a little and wouldn't allow the choke lever to come up. The throttle linkage came free after playing with it but the operator presence trigger on the back of the handle (or whatever you would call it) is still bound up.

I had had enough messing with it and gave him my 361 to cut with and I began loading wood into the trailer. He made a few cuts and looked up saying" I'm gonna let you sharpen my chain from now on". I didn't want to insult his saw so I just agreed!

Sold my 029 super a few weeks ago , I got hold of a Echo 60s from 1970 , and it has more grunt. No bad words about the 029 s , just more in love with an old 60 s. When I need power for my small mill I use cs 750. And have a brand new 372 xp xtorq. So.......not a bad saw , just misses low torq compared to an old Echo....

Lmao seriously if someone judges a man by his saw is just plain stooopid.

Go to any firearms site and mention Hi-Point firearms. You will hear how heavy, ugly, cheap, junkie, unreliable weapons they are. Typically the ones screaming this the loudest are the ones who just spent $2000 on an AR-15 with night vision scope, bipod grip, a cell phone, and microwave all bolted to it so it can sit in a safe, but remember it match's they're top of the line load bearing tactical vest they wear when shooting at paper Zombie targets. Most have never shot one but will be quick to tell other what a pos they are. In reality a Hi-Point is a weapon that fits a particular group of Folks would probably would like to buy a brand new H&K but don't have the means or extra coin to justify doing so. So they purchase a more inexpensive weapon which happens to have some of the best customer service as well as one of the best warranties in the industry to offer protection to their family or shoot paper. I enjoy cutting firewood and my 391 or my 390 do a great job of that. Could I buy a faster, lighter, more highly priced saw? Yep. Do I need one? Nope. Snob on.

So today I fixed up a Homelite Super 2. Top handle pro arborist climbing saw. Well, ok, not so much. But it's going to a guy that got his stuff stolen and he's got nuttin. So this will be better than that. Put a used solid nose bar, new chain and ordered an air filter off the bay so I've got about $35 buck into it. It'll have to do him until he can raise some cash...
