anyone have issues with the new 661 flooding out...on its own? Turn the saw off after cutting for a long stretch, take a short break and it won't start back up. Gas smell when pulling rope, plug is wet...leave plug out to dry out cylinder for about a minute, reassemble and starts right up with 1 pull.
I was cutting quite a lot for two days at about 8000'.

weird.

electrode looked half normal/half dark, lots of carbon. top of piston is pretty well coated with black as well.
32:1 K2
I'm thinking of going to 40:1 instead. I have a bunch of 18"x2" cookies to cut for a friend this coming Sun so will be a good time to try different ratio. (bases for table decorations at wedding :p)

saw hasn't been run since Fri. just pulled plug...

Thanks for the pics. I'd say that shows you are pretty rich IMO. At that elevation you could lean the ratio back quite a bit.

If it were mine I'd start with a new plug properly gapped and 40:1 to see how things go from there. My bet is that things will improve. Also how is your air filter? With a ported saw a lot more air is required and if that is impeded, even with the Intelicarb, it will run rich.

can you claim a warrantee repair or has the saw been modified?

This must be the in thing to do this year...I just cut a little over 100 cookies for a guy yesterday to use for table center pieces at a wedding.

AF is stock, stock muff port has been opened up, however.

How much run time on it? Did it just start this? How's it run one fired up?
I cut from about 7:30-noon and then again in the afternoon for several hrs on Thus. Not as much run time on Fri, only half day cutting, but same issue occurred.
cut up several trees I had dropped last year as well as around 10 more dead (bark beetle) trees this year...probably 6cd of rounds from 8" to 30" diameter.

Saw ran fine down at sea level when I first got it and after getting it back from you. This was the first time using the K2 and at 8000' in altitude. When running it was fine, cut great, ran great, idled fine. The problem was only when shutting it off and then trying to restart after a few minutes. It acted as if I had choked an already warmed up saw...including smelling gas when pulling cord...over and over again. I did try one pull with choke just to see if any difference, none.
pulling until my arm fell off would eventually get it started but it was easier to just pull the plug and let it dry out. after that, started with 1 pull each time this happened.

Twilight Zone saw? :p

...cue music...

When flooded squeeze the trigger open while pulling the cord over and over and over and it will eventually start.

Since you are at 8000' I'd try some Ultra @ 40:1.

Also do the re-set of the saw with the new mix and plug.

If you have not done it yet you may want to do the m/t reset....its easy and only takes a few minutes. If you took a regular carb saw from sea level to 8000' and didn't adjust the carb it'd run rich like your describing.....and flood like crazy. I thought I read some where the m/t can only adjust for so much evelation before it needs reset.....0 to 8000' is quite a bit.

I have a ported 661 and have been from 4000' to 800' and back to 4000' and did the reset each time.....my saw once warm always starts on one pull, every time.

ah, that makes sense. I was under the impression...silly me...that the MT would set itself for altitude. I didn't know there were limitations.

will check the reset procedure and see how it goes this Sun.

The Mtron does read elevation but the parameters from the factory were for 50:1 ratio of Ultra. It changes some of it's ability IMO when we change too many things they didn't factor in from the factory.

Anxious to see what you experience next outing.

got this from another thread, "With the reset procedure, I would do 90 seconds at Start, shut it down. Do 90 sec on Run, shut it down. Then start it and put it in some big wood."

this the 'reset' procedure? can't find anything in the owners manual

The only parameter MTronic can monitor is RPMs. It adjusts the fuel and checks to see how it affected RPMs, over and over, many times per second. It knows nothing of elevation, fuel mix, barometric pressure, fuel octane, or any other performance affecting variable. It works entirely off RPMs.

I simply do 60 seconds with choke/start on and timed. At 60 seconds trip the trigger, and then immediately shut down. Wait 5 full minutes. Re-start the saw and cut wood. That has worked on all Mtrons I have and I have them all.
