I think there is a coil spring inside the housing behind the pin that pushes it out when the trigger is not holding it in, they get weak or break with age/use so it would take some investigating to see if anything can be done to improve the one you have.

Great looking saws with some big ol' chips stuck to them!

Cylinder base milled, compression raised, intake and exhaust ports reworked, Boyesan Hi perf reeds and the reed blocks reworked, ignition timing advanced, and the air filters changed out for increased air flow to name a few of the upgrades I do to the old mag saws.

How much do the Boysen reeds help?
I've been considering trying those on a couple of my P series.

I'd also like to have a cylinder base milled and give that a try but not sure who I'd trust to do that in this town.

The Pioneers have been great saws to learn to work on and I love running them. That's good because I've been hoarding them up lately!

Just got my first saw in this series. Needed a good cleaning and the window between the tanks had to be jb welded back in it's spot. Could use a new muffler as this one was hacked on a bit and I need to fab up a cover for the K&N filter. Other than that it's in pretty good shape. Oh and missing the chain break but from my understanding the saw came from a logger and I was told a lot of them removed the chain breaks.

The Boyesan reeds help some,on their own not a lot of difference but with more modifications to the engine the reeds can handle higher RPM.

Saw prices are never a set amount, depends on if the buyer wants one badly or is just hoping for a deal. Depends on what the seller wants for it and what the buyer is willing to pay. I have gotten many for free and paid as much as $550. CDN for a specific model I wanted for my collection.
