None of you guys are getting me, and it's kind of insulting! I have used a tremendous amount of strength, with no clutch and drum installed, and the clutch cover on the damn saw using the hand guard. For gods sake...I touched the top handle with the hand guard, and it still didn't release. There is no way that it takes that much force to release the brake! Why is it so hard for you all to comprehend...something is wrong? I can apply, and release the brake all day on any of my other saws....the brake mechanism is not working.....even if this is the first time in all the land.
Now I have gotten to the point that I need a new hand guard..mine is too chewed up now....it slips with the clutch cover bolted on, and I'm just gonna buy a new clutch cover...because the brake mechanism...is screwed!

It takes a surprising amount of force to move the mechanism. Make a 3 prong tool to stick in there like I showed in my video. Use an old deep socket and grind it to fit.

If it still doesn't move (never seen that) then pull the spring out and try the mechanism without the spring. These springs are under plenty of tension to hurt you so be super careful. Spring replacement is somewhere in my 300 vids lol.
The mechanism seems gritty with the spring out, but it works. I had it turned almost all the way using needle nosed, and vice grips...it slipped, and then it would not move a hair after that, believe me I tried. Its like something broke, or over extended when the needle noses slipped.

the mechanism will not likely move easily without a three pronged tool. I'm happy to help, ship it to me and i'll make a vid of me fixing it

You will have to pm me, I can't figure out how to do it with my smartphone.

Its gonna really pisss me off if it's fixed easily. I don't think it's gonna be easy.

I would like to be able to fix it myself, and I'm sure I could, with new parts, and a little patience. If there isn't anything wrong with it, then believe me...I'm gonna be very ashamed of myself...for not having the patience to fix it myself, believe me I understand the concept. There was a time that I was very handy, and could fix most things...my ex and her family used to call me Mr fix it. I am already disappointed with myself...I literally feel like I am losing it sometimes. I don't know what has changed in my life, or why I'm so stressed out all the time...but it's there.

I seem to remember having this problem because I put the brake on some how with the cover off and I think if the handle isn't in the correct rotation it wont let you reset the brake. Those are very easy saws to work on.

So like if the handle is in non brake position and the cover is in brake position it's not going to work.

It seems like the spring or something else isn't letting the cover sit flush, I can't tell you if it was flush before I pulled it apart. I'm pretty convinced I damaged something, because as I've said...it was moving with the needle noses, and after the needle noses slipped off a few times...it would move no more...at least under pressure. With the spring out, its kind of gritty, but it moves.

Here is the spring cover, it was on when I put the clutch cover on, it was seated all the way for sure the last time I tried. The part that's ate up happened earlier, before I removed the clutch and drum, when I know it wasn't seated well. There is a gap between the plastic spring cover, and the clutch cover...see picture.View attachment 661798
possibly the brake band isn't located correctly, it looks like it is riding on top of a little alloy lug at 10 o'clock in the pic above of the inside of the side cover & forcing the band together where they cross in the loop and that is what is not allowing the cover plate to sit flush with the side cover, when the side cover is then mounted its clamping the band together & not allowing to slide past where it crosses in the loop.

Very astute. I can see that happening. No amount of pulling will reset it.

Well, I took the saw to the Husky dealer, and I was right. The brake mechanism is screwed. He put his tool on it and tried to disengage the brake for a good 10 minutes, it won't budge. He said he had never seen this problem before. He grabbed another clutch cover off another saw, and locked it, and unlocked it right before my eyes with the tool. I guess there's nothing left to do but order the part that I need. Thanks guys for all of your guidance.
