A farmer that I do milk pickup at has a few saws that need work , one he said was a stihl 460 . Said it's missing parts but would take $150 for it . I asked where it was and he brought me to a storage spot in his barn and upon looking at it I didn't think it looked bad other than the missing parts . I took a few pictures and left agreeing I would come back tommorow with the $ to get it . I was looking at the pictures at the plant and I'm not sure what saw it is now and need help to determine if it's a 440 or a 460 like he thought . The handle sticker says 440 , the top cover says 460 , and the air filter cover appears to be from a 440 . I called him and talked to him about it and he said he remembers the tank being broken on his 440 and his farm hand swapped the tank off this saw and put it on the 440 .
Is there any definite ways of knowing which saw this is other than tearing it apart and measuring the piston diameter ? ? Will the top of the cylinder # be different for a 440 vs a 460 ? Sorry for the long post but I'm very interested in it if it's a 460 for the price .
