Do you suppose that tank could have come from one of the 270 variants produced later, such as the 175 or 1660 Skil? Is the 270 serial tag on the bottom of the tank? Never seen the vent anywhere but the left side. And that tank is on all the 27x models.

That's interesting, all i can tell you is that my Grandfather bought the 270 new in the early sixties and it's been in my family ever since. It sat in our shed from sometime in the 70's until about 1999 when i found it and got it running with just a carb diaphragm. My dad recalls that it may have had the rings replaced once a long time ago before my Grandfather died in 1971 but that's it.

Here is a pic of the model tag.

It's also my only Canadien with the 'fancy' tag. The rest have generic manufacturer plates. Some have IDs and serials stamped up front by the bar mount.

Mine has the serial number stamped on the bar mount as well as the "fancy" tag, I'll try to get a picture later.

I was really on the fence about painting my airbox cover in the accurate lighter metallic blue but I opted for the darker metallic blue, it's not a museum piece or anything...

How does this 21 run? These don't really get a lot of press for whatever reason but I sure find them appealing. These and the geardrives are saws I would love to find.

No idea, still haven't fueled it. It also needs a bar and chain, although I think I have one now, I just need to clean it up. I'd imagine it runs very similar to my IEL HM.

Took a few pictures of the tank vent, you can see mine is on the right (clutch) side of the tank, magneto side is solid. I wonder if they changed after early production? I lifted off the tape i have on the vent for painting.
Mine is the same way. I tried to remove the vent, but couldn't figure out how and didn't want to break it, so it stayed put.

I missed a very nice 270 on FB marketplace for free on the weekend. :(

But I might get a chance to start re-assembly tonight. Got all my seals and bearings ready to go.
