Talked to a guy earlier, he dropped off a generator for repair. He said his Brother is retired, and for extra $$ he drives around picking up "unwanted" equipment and stuff, also nice things that have been pushed ot the curb.
He said he takes it apart and sells the metals for scrap, takes the rest to the landfill.
He said he takes about 3 Trailor and truck loads of METAL to the yard every 2-3 weeks, and the same to the landfill.
He said he gets a mess of nice Stihls and Husky saws, and always has a few old antiquated machines. He says that he doesnt even try to start any of it. He doesnt care if it run, he has no repair skills, just metal recovery skills. He had 2 riding mowers that he knew ran fine, one needed front tires, one needed a drive belt, both had the engines plucked for aluminum, and the decks and frames sold for steel scrap...
So he is giving him my phone number, he said If I pay him scrap cost, or close to it, he will hold out anything I want.
He said with the commercial saws, he pulls the bars and chains, takes the motors out for aluminum, then if it has a plastic case, it goes to the junkyard, He said the MAJORITY of his stuff has the magnesium case, that goes to the scrap yard.
He told me, I can figure on paying him 5-10 dollars a saw, 5 for a push mower, 15-20 for a riding mower. He said he moved 25-30 push mowers a week, most in new or like new condition.
He gets a gokart, a complete Gokart, rips the motor off, sells it for the aluminum, then sells the steel frame for scrap.
So im going to ask him to hold out Gokarts, Chainsaws, and push mowers, thats what really moves sown here, and they can usually be made running for little money.
Im gonna be "in the saws"
