Title says it all, write up on saw and pics below. Let me know if you think, should I or shouldn't I buy it for $480 CDN. Wondering about the bottom end...??

"This saw started out as a low hour Husqvarna 351 chain saw and has had a brand new OEM Husqvarna 346xp cylinder/piston kit installed. I also installed the new upgraded intake boot with metal clamp. New spark plug and new 18" bar and chain. Muffler is a dual port design and has screens on both ports. Saw has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected and pressure tested. Cylinder has zero hours and has only been started to tune."

What's not OEM on that one? All I see is the cylinder AV mount is backwards. That's enough of a flag for me but the only thing not OEM 346 there is the serial tag.
Im not saying it may not be a fine saw. But putting a hellcat engine into a scat pak does not a hellcat make. It may be as fast but..i wouldnt pay new hellcat price for it.

That's a terrible analogy. Chainsaws aren't parts matching. If the ad and pics above are true what makes that saw not a 346?

Sounds like maybe you're thinking of a 340/345/350 conversion... A 351 (or/also 353) chassis is the same as a 346.

That may be a good saw. It is not worth 480 cad. Exchange doesn't work, as the US is currently paying (or asking?) large for used saws.

It may have the same parts as a 346, but the serial # says 351, so it's a modified 351, NOT a 346.

the 500.00 cad range in Canada will buy a decent used 3 series 70cc saw.

the hood doesn't even match the carpet on that one...

anyway, personally I wouldn't even consider it. At that price I may not even look at the listing.

This is true but for someone looking to cut wood why would it matter. It matters absolutely zero. If I put this saw and a tagged 346 saw in your hands you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Lol apparently you haven't looked at too many three series Huskies.

So what does your exchanger come up with for $480cad?

The owner admits its a 351(3?) Dressed up as a 346. And im sure it cuts good, probably runs really well. Id pay the 375ish...if it was a real bona fide 346XP...maybe, they sell locally for a bit less albeit not sparkling clean. There was a clean 268 locally for $375 last week, the saw market is a bit soft here after the hurricane so maybe im skewed...

Just curious, if it had the original top end on it in that condition where would you value it?

I've seen 2 and 3 series husky's since they were invented, pretty much. Not all of them change color. My 262 is an example of that and so are many more.

as a firewood saw, I'd pay about 300-350 cad max for that. Maybe.

As someone who wants to use it AND collect it, I wouldn't touch it.

Jmo.

To me your post came off sounding like it was somehow physically inferior to a 'real' 346 where it's really just two digits on the tag. I suppose that does affect resale value to a degree but that wasn't made at all clear in your comment, particularly as the op was asking about the bottom end.

Not talking about two series. It's well known that the early three series became multi-colored with time. Use your search function.

I will take as many $260 USD mag cased saws in this series in that condition with brand new 44.3mm top ends as you can find.

An all original 351/3 in very good condition, i could probably only get 250 locally. 455Ranchers own the 300 dollar market and ms260s own the 325-350 dollar market. Having X model top end means nothing to 99% of buyers...in fact being non original it makes people hesitant.
