Awwww, but that's not the point of this thread, is there, Master. It's about a comparison of saw performance and results are worth to be debated among saw freaks. The 026 coming out real slow is not a world drama, but surely hurts a bit the feeling of a die hard Stihl man, we understand that....:buttkick:

that being said, investing time in how to sharpen a chain decently imo is much more beneficial to a man cutting a lot of wood than trying to get a few more rpm out of a saw. The sharper chain wins hands down.

Welp Brother Belgian I posted the results of my two screamers and it seemed not to be accepted but instead questioned. Hell Spike had to come to my aid to set these guys striaght about rpm levels and power. Notice no one questioned him but he is a Husky dealer ya see, haha. I guess the facts coming from a Stihl man just isn't good enuff for them, had to come from one of their chosing but thats ok, I'm right just the same and I knew I was anyway, hehe I'm fairly positvie Spike will agree as well if the 346 has a cat muffler on it its not going to out cut the 5100 period no matter what chain is used or how fast its running, that cat muffler has to come off before even attempting to buck up next to a 5100. Does that make the 346 not worth owning, course not. Does it make it any less of a saw, nope. Does it mean those that own one should now toss it in the creek, nope. Does that make the 5100 a better saw, nope. What it means is this to me:

Anyone taking issue over a second in the cut between two saws is merely doing so out of brand loyalty and nothing more. If it means that much to justify the saw of your chosing I suggest a axe and then come back and try again with the saws, that second won't matter much then. I use the old slower 026 and I got the two screamers in question and I'll continue to use it for years to come. The screamers are faster but are they better just because of that, not in this cats book. If its all about high speed cookie cutting as the prime indicator of performance, where longivity and reliablity doesn't matter, the woods sure have nothing to fear out of those that worry about that second in the cut,LOL

I'm with you ole boy. ;)
So What I did is make a new post so we can compair the ms260 with another saw that is very very close.
Go ahead check it out. some of your input would be good. Hehehehe

I'm checking but what saw are you referring to. BTW when the hell are you getting the J-RED you was talking about. Untill you get it you can't get in the game of the one second that ruled the world,LOLOL

This is a bit odd, as the mount pattern should be the same - probably just some inconsistanse in Oregons production.......

Was it the adjuster holes that were too small, or the slot too narrow, or both?

The adjuster screw holes were too small and the slot had to be die grinded longer so i could get the chain on. I would much rather change the b/c on the husky with inboard clutch than i would on the 5100. When the chain is brand new anyway.

Hey Ole FarmerBuck, sorry about criticizing the test. Wasn't my intention to beat you up over the deal.

Thall, Awesome post. I like my 026, but don't tell anyone I have one, ok? lol

To each his own. I have owned both and I like the one I like for my reasons. That is my opinion and everyone has........well you know the routine.

No harm done Freakingstang. Heck, its only human nature to stick up for 'their saw'. My problem is that i have to stick up for both! lol Now that most peoples feathers have settled down, i think i should install factory muffler and let em have at it again.
Tony, did you get your prize in the mail yet? I'm sure i sent it but you know our postal service.....could have got lost.
Oh yea.....i took the 346 to my local dealer yeaterday. (30 miles) I didnt buy it there. The good mechanic came back to work so i'll continue to do business with them. He fired it up and after warming a bit, gunned her a few times. Should have seen the look on his face!! He said...wow! i bet this thing will cut! They arent used to anyone around here doing anything to mufflers but he liked it.

Running the stock muffler will be an even fight, I want to see some numbers on the 346 with the cat muffler and non cat muffler. I would like to see just how restrictive the cat really is

its not really much worse that the no CAT, just gets hotter. if you ever seen inside one you would know why.

i ran both ways and i coulndt tell much diff., cept for the heat and the plug looked a little better with less heat.

prolly in the neighborhood of 0%-5%.

Hey HUSKYMAN I didnt get "numbers" as such but I did cut on the same pile of green maple branchs and dead big cottonwood the next weekend after swapping my cat out on my new 346 and there is just no way an epa 346 will cut with a non-epa time wise I just know it. :) (I would be curious also!)

FWIW I even had to slow the idle down a bunch post cat I left the mix screws at the rich limits right where they were from Husky the plug is nice light brown and it hits the rev limiter in a split second now where it had great performance before its now fantastic!!! The saw can be driven HARD now just like my 372 with a 20" I like that in a saw I like to get it done and get on to beer time! :)

As I remember it, Stihl used to publish .1 or .2kW less for the cat versions of the 044 etc, in the past (1990s, I believe).

Husky said .1kW less for the cat version of the 242xp, at about the same time.

Edit;

That aside, there can be power losses elsewhere in the power-band, even if the max power is the same.

well i would bet they have inproved the CATs this time around. i can believe .1kW as its almost imperseptable as i stated.
