039 - Wrong air filter or carburetor or piece missing ??

Obviously if I try to cut wood with the saw this way, it will suck unfiltered air into the engine.
And I searched everywhere and could not locate a parts diagram or exploded view of the saw to see what it should have.
The saw was a freebie to me and it does run very strong and smooth and I am looking forward to getting my winter wood with it.

You have the new style filter on an old carb model.

Thank you, sir ............ I will just seal off that fitting so it doesn't get crud past it.

I would fill that opening with sealant and let it harden. The new style carbs look like this.

Foam ear plugs and a little glue work great.

You are also missing the winter/summer air shutter that should block the spark plug opening. The carb and saw won't do well with all that hot air from the engine this time of year.

Any idea of the measurements of the shutter?
I could probably fabricate something from my junk pile that will work.
