Did the 044 and 046 use the same walbro carb? How bout the 044 magnum. I am looking to swap carbs on my 044 is there a better one than the walbro that will bolt on.

I don't know what you've got now, but I just put a Zama on my ported 044 and I'm super happy with it!!

Both saws used different carbs as follows.
The 044 used the following.
Walbro models
HD-10-1
HD-11-1
HD-15-1
HD-17-1
Zama models
C3M-S21
C3M-S23
C3M-S24
The 046 used.
Walbro models
HD-8-1
HD-9-1
HD-14-1
HD-16-1
HD-24-1
In most cases you should be able to interchange these carbs, and it will work by adjusting the carbs a little different for each saw. On the other hand I would try to stick to the correct model for the saw if possible.
