I just got an 088 and was thinking of MM it. Will it make much difference like it would on a new 880? I know the hole in muffler does'nt look very big at all.
How can you tell which coil you have and how large should I make the opening? What RPM should I tune to? I don't even know the factory RPM. Sorry for running on with so many questions but thats kind of why we are all here is'nt it. And to shoot the shoot of course.:dunno:
How would I go about finding out what year it actually is?Factory "max" RPM is around 11,750-> 12k.. but it's not a very useful number. That would be with a decent size bar/chain and you will likely hit the ignition limiter around 12k anyhow. Don't just tune to an rpm (tach) number; tune to best cut times in big wood (saw pulling say 9k) then tune a little richer for safety.
Easiest way to tell your if your coil is limiting is to pull the carb limiter caps and wind it up - if it goes to 13k, it's not limited. Be quick though, and only do that on a warmed up saw... and set the carb back after...
Hole size... I'm no expert here... Try 3/4 inch... or any size you like to experiment with. It will be LOUD. Dead easy on an 088 - just make a plate with the appropriate hole and screw it into the muffler
Does anyone know? How would I go about finding out what year it actually is?
